I looked at the phone number in my hands, wondering if I should dare.
Would she even bother answering?
I should at least try.
I dialed the number and held the phone up to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Nita?"
"Ashley?"
"Nita, where are you?"
She hung up.
I tried calling back, but it always went to voicemail.
I threw my cell phone at the couch and watched as it flew back and hit the floor.
So she wouldn t talk to me.
Great.
I growled to myself, storming into my small kitchen.
I needed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich just to try and get a grip on myself.
I rummaged through the refrigerator and suddenly remembered that I had run out of jelly that morning. I threw on my coat, grabbed my cell phone, wallet and keys, then trudged out into the rain night air.
I threw my car in reverse and drove quickly down the street.
I knew I was driving much too fast down the curvy back roads, but I needed to get to the store before it closed and I had about five minutes.
A wolf- a large wolf- ran into the street and froze when it saw my car.
I slammed on the breaks and swerved to avoid it.
My car spun off the road and slammed into a tree.
Then all went black.
