I don't own Mio or Mayu, or any other part of the game for that matter, except a precious copy of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly.

2 poems, the first from Mayu's, and the second from Mio's perspective on the events they witnessed, past and present.

Dying Dreams, Shattered Pasts

Mayu

A felt wing

Perched on my neck

Exquisite velvet

Moth-like and whispering

Fluttering

In the chill

A Crimson Butterfly rests

Snugly on my weary back

Begging me to go on

It dances

A streak of red

Decorates the sky

Flitting around memories

Guiding me

Leading us

Down into a spiral

Through a maze

Into truth

I wake up

And

It is

Gone.

(Does it exist only in our shared dreams? Promise that you'll never leave me…Mio, would you still come and find me?)

Mio

You called "Wait!" but I didn't stop

(I ran on, feeling the breeze in my face and the wind on my heels)

Then you were there, on the ground, splayed out

(Like a broken china doll, contorted in pain)

I called "Mayu!" but you didn't answer

(Only the sound of my wretched voice, bouncing off the trees)

And I was by your side, your leg forever ruined

(I wish that I had fallen instead, I wish that I could take away all your hurt…)

About that time…

(Take it back, let it just be a faded memory)

I'm so sorry…

(You don't have to be sorry for leaving because I'll find you, I'll always come back for you…)

MAYU!

Together, we'll be there to see it when

Butterflies will fill the sky once more
