"Hey."
"Hmm?" Yuizaki Hiyono gazed toward her partner-in-crime (or rather, solving them), Narumi Ayumu, a look of question evident in her features.
"Lend me your shoulder."
"WHAT?" She couldn't stop him, though, as his head leaned onto her shoulder, nestles among the honeyed strands of her hair as if it fit there in the first place. With this action, he began to explain in that short, precise, to-the-point way that designated him as Narumi Ayumu.
"I haven't gotten much sleep since the day before yesterday."
Of course, she had panicked. Ayumu? Sleeping on her shoulder? HER shoulder? Of all places? Sure, it was probably a tempting idea, as tired as he must have been, but this action was just so, so unlike the Narumi-san she knew that it was far out of the span of her imagination before she even had the chance to think of it.
Hiyono felt the color rising in her face as she comically looked around to see if anyone had noticed. Her fears had been realized as she overheard two girls from another school giggling and whispering about how the two must be in love.
In love? She pondered the idea to herself. In her mind, she only thought that Ayumu had only cared for her as, at the most, a friend. Nothing more. This random display of trust, as she thought of it, was quite unusual ... and now that she had the chance to think about it, it could have meant something. Maybe not something as deep as love, but something a little more than just friendship.
He trusts me. Narumi-san trusts me. Hiyono thought this to herself with an air of happiness, a different happiness than the one she normally showed in public. She gazed at him for a moment longer before smiling, realizing that things had changed for the better between them.
"Well done, Narumi-san."
