The Game

It had started as a game. They were each allowed one dare and one truth. The truth had to come out the moment the question was asked; the dare had to be done within a week. They played it every Sunday when they hung out, and by Saturday they couldn't wait for the next round.
It had began innocently enough. Takeru had decided the truth question for the first week would be something simple - "What's your favorite movie?"; Daisuke had decided the dare for the first week would be something odd - "We have to wear each other's outfits for a day." They could still hear the giggles of the other Chosen when they saw the blond boy with goggles and the burgundy-haired boy with a bucket hat.
It wasn't supposed to get out of hand. By the second month, the truths had become more personal - "How far have you gone sexually?"; by the third month, the dares were embarassing - "You have to ask someone from school out on a date." Takeru found himself boggled at the fact that Daisuke admitted he was a virgin without shame, and Daisuke was gritting his teeth when Takeru managed to get a date for Saturday afternoon before he had.
He hadn't meant to cause the other any pain. "Who do you have a crush on?" had ended with "No one at the moment." and "...you wouldn't understand, even if I spent the next week explaining."; "I dare you to kiss..." had ended with an awkward day around Hikari for one and a week of Taichi ignoring him for the other.
"I'm sorry." There was enough sorrow in his voice to show just how much he meant it.
All Takeru could do in return was try to smile through his tears.
