"James the Red Engine and Percy the Small Engine have been really good friends for many years, ever since Percy arrived on Sodor. They work together, play together, and they keep each other company. But sometimes, Percy wants to be with James more, and this story explains why."

One beautiful morning, Sir Topham Hatt came to Tidmouth Sheds.
"James. I have an important job for you.", said Sir Topham Hatt. "You are to shunt some freight cars at the coaling plant."
"Yes, sir. I'll get right on it.", James replied.
Percy asked if he can go too,
"Sir Topham Hatt, could I go help out too?", Percy asked.
"No Percy. It's your day off. You don't have to spend it shunting freight cars.", Sir Topham Hatt stated.
"Okay, sir.", Percy said.
Percy was very disappointed because he wanted to be with his friend James. So he followed James as quietly as he could.

When James arrived at the coaling plant, the manager gave him a friendly wave and greeting.
"Hello, James. Good to see you. There's a lot of work to be finished by sunset.", said the manager.
"Yes, there is. And I'm here to help.", James agreed, and started work.

The freight cars, as usual, started to offend James for shunting them.
"Be quiet!", James yelled out.
Then Percy pulled up alongside, nearly surprising James.
"Percy, why are you here?", asked James.
"I want to help out." Percy responded.
"Percy, I don't have time to be with you. I'm very busy.", James said out loud.
"I'm lonely, that's all, James.", "Percy said.
"Go home, Percy." James said and puffed away to continue shunting.

This made Percy very cross.
"What's going on, why is Percy here?", the manager asked James.
"Percy is bothering me." explained James.

"Please go back to Tidmouth Sheds." said the manager nicely.
"Fine, I'm leaving.", Percy said sadly.
So Percy puffed sadly out of the coaling plant, a tear slowly sliding down his face. He didn't like having the coaling plant manager tell him to go home for bothering his friend, and he didn't mean to be so cheeky to them both.

On his way back to the sheds, he saw his best friend, Thomas, who was taking Annie and Clarabel, and some passengers on a tour of Sodor.
"Hello, Percy. What's wrong?", Thomas asked.
"Well, I tried to follow James around in the coaling plant. And it didn't turn out well.", Percy responded.
Percy explained what happened at the coaling plant.
"Percy, there's nothing wrong with that. James just wants to separated from you for a little while, that's all.", Thomas explained.
Percy was confused.
"What does separated mean?", asks Percy.
"It means to be apart from one another for a while.", said Thomas.
"James will be happy to see once the job is finished.", Thomas said.
"Thomas, you're right. I will see James again. And then we'll be friends again.", stated Percy.
Percy happily agreed and waited patiently until James cames back.

As for James, he apologized to Percy when he came home to the sheds that he was sorry for yelling at him.
"I am sorry for yelling at you Percy. Can you forgive me?", James asked Percy.
"Yes, I forgive you, James. We're friends and we'll look out for each other.", Percy agrees.

And that's what made them very happy in the end
