I Care

Disclaimer: I don't own Maximum Ride, not making any money etc
Summary: A short random idea I had about a closed off girl that I thought fitted Max and Fang.
A/N: Like I said random idea that I wanted others to read. I guess its kinda AU but yeah. Basically this is a girl and a guy that sort of know each other and the guy truly cares about her to see past her mask.
His gaze bore deep inside her, penetrating the wall with holding all her emotions.
He could see past her blank mask, he could see the real her.
She didn't know whether to be angry or flattered.
No one ever bothered to look past her stony expression; they normally were intimidated by her appearance, never giving her a second glance.
But not this guy.
No, he wasn't frightened by her badass stance, nor was he intimidated by her empty eyes and steely gaze.
No, he stood his ground, and talked to her.
He smiled at her as he introduced himself, and for a moment she smiled too.
She hadn't smiled in years, and the feeling of contentment that washed over her was overwhelming.
Of course, a smile can make you happy, but smiling makes you vulnerable, she realised as her blank mask slammed back down.
He was slightly taken aback by her sudden change of expression and he was, to some degree, hurt.
She was shutting him out, to stop herself from being hurt.
She looked into his eyes and saw the pain and hurt in them, and turned to leave.
She hated herself for causing this innocent guy this hurt because of her denial, of her forbidding herself to feel happiness.
She started walking away, before a strong arm reached out and grasped hers, turning her body towards his.
She turned away, not wanting to look into his eyes, tenderly placed two fingers under her chin, gently turning her head to look at him before resting his hand on her cheek.
Their gazes locked and he whispered gently "Why, why the mask?"
Her eyes filled with tears "I don't do emotions" she answered, "but you're different. You try to know me, why? Why do you bother?"
He leaned in close until his lips were mere inches away from hers before replying softly "Because I care," before pressing a chaste kiss to her lips.
All her hidden emotions came flooding out, all those tears she kept pent up for what seemed like aeons cascaded down her cheeks as she buried her face in his chest, feeling safe held in his strong arms.
The End
Please tell me how I went; this is my first story so. And be gentle!
