Kisses Through Glass
Lily Luna Potter had never noticed how terrifying Hogwarts could be after dark until she was tiptoeing down a corridor in the silence. A silence which was only broken when a suit of armour creaked ominously. When Lily clicked a door open. When a ghost whooshed past her. When Mrs Norris' meows echoed off the walls. The bridge Lily had to cross was especially petrifying. She could hear the waves lapping against the shore, the wind whistling past her and occasionally, Lily was sure she could hear another set of footsteps. If someone was following Lily however, the never showed themselves. If possible, this set Lily on edge a little more.
As Lily slipped through the doors to the room of confiscated objects that Filch wasn't allowed to hoard in his office, she pulled out the Marauders Map which James had given her for the duration of her 7th Year and checked for signs of anyone else in her vicinity. She cursed. Someone was in the room. How they had found out about the room and it's contents, Lily didn't even want to know. But them knowing of the room's whereabouts was bad news for Lily. Hiding in the shadows, Lily glanced at the name of her bad news. She hissed. It was her. The entire reason Lily had even found the room was in there.
Clearly, Merlin had something against Lily.
Lily glared at the name, waiting for her to exit. After what felt like hours, the name and it's owner left the room. Lily let out a sigh that was a mix of frustration and relief. Loudly. The girl turned, cocked her head to the side and smirked.
"Hello Potter."
"White." Lily said, eyes narrowing. Lily was sure that Becca White's soul was anything but white. It would be black and tainted. Becca was pure evil.
"You're going to see him, aren't you?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Lily's cheeks warmed, though she was sure the light of the weak Lumos spell Becca had cast wouldn't make it easy to see her red cheeks.
"You can't lie to me, Lily Luna Potter. Your emotions are as easy to spot as your hair." Becca's smirk became victorius.
Lily folded her arms and raised an eyebrow, "Well, your slutty ways are even easier to spot."
Becca scowled, "Very witty."
"I know. I pride myself on it." Lily was the one smirking now, though her smirk faded as an evil grin spread itself across Becca's face.
"Have fun with Brandon, Lils."
Lily's face fell. Becca gave another triumphant smirk before she departed. Lily shook her head, Becca wasn't important. Not now, at least. The room was more important. Lily opened the door and stepped through quietly, making her way towards the Mirror of Erised. She smiled when she saw the reflection. Brandon was kissing her cheek as he hugged her from the side. Real Lily smiled as Mirror Lily was showered with affection.
Real Lily's smile softened as Mirror Brandon turned to look at her. She leaned forward and pressed her lips against the Mirror's smooth, cool surface, right where Mirror Brandon's lips were. That was how she always said goodbye.
Lily had always thought that Mirror kisses were better than none at all. But now, she realised they weren't. And as Lily made her way back to the Common Room, she resolved to never return to that room. Tomorrow she was going to tell Brandon how she felt.
Because if Lily Luna Potter knew one thing, it was that she was done kissing through reflective glass.
