Sweet Sixteen

Well, here we go, the first chapter of a new story, hope you enjoy.
A fleck of dust fell on the scroll, followed swiftly by a small chunk of stone. Alucard shook it off the paper with a frown. Seconds later another piece fell down, this one much bigger and sharper, leaving a small rip in the thin paper. An unhappy frown stretched itself across his lips. He leaned his head back, and watched as the ceiling let loose several more flecks of dust. Standing up and brushing himself off, he let his body drift into nothingness and rise through the ceiling. Slipping into the shadows of the room, he watched as a thirty-something year old man ducked his head and made warding gestures. Strangely enough, they weren't directed at him. The man was staring fearfully at a sixteen year old girl sitting placidly across from him. She picked up a small cup and was sipping at it, staring at him over the silver rims of her glasses. Alucard gave a small grin and slipped back through the wall to the passageway outside. Moments later there came the murmur of voices, one shrill and demanding, the other one calm and crisp. Leaning against the wall, Alucard watched amusedly as the frantic man came bolting out of the room and dashed down the hallway. He watched him go with interest, then slid into the room. The young girl was just pushing her chair back, and turned to look at him.
"Shame, shame, Mistress. That was the sixth one this month was it not?" Thin shoulders shrugged in response.
Alucard's eyes slid over to the papers littering the desk.
"Trignometry?" He questioned. There was a murmur of agreement.
"You made that man cry over some math problems?" Though his words were incredulous, a hint of amusement had entered his voice. When no cutting response was said, he turned to watch see his charge standing by the window. Her slender fingers had tugged away the curtain, and she was staring off into the distance. The vampire slid around to her side, and peered out at what she was looking at. Across the courtyard at the gate, a group of teenagers had stopped their car and were peering at the enormous house. After laughing and pointing at it for some minutes, they turned around and sped off, the dust raised from the road settling back to the ground behind them. Alucard's eyes narrowed and he looked at his mistress. She still said nothing. Probing was the only course of action then.
Do you wish to be like them Integral? Do you wish for their easy mortal lives? He felt her mental barriers spring into place after the first sentence. Surprisingly, she was still silent. He pushed a little further.
Do you want your responsibility to just go away? To leave your family's legacy behind so you can play with mindless children? I doubt your father would have been pleased at that…
He was rewarded by a sharp slap. Not even flinching, he began to laugh, the chuckles still rolling out of him long after she had slammed the door behind her.
