New Beginnings
Chapter One
EPOV
'WHAT?!' both Bella and I said in unison.
'I am not marrying him!' Bella said in a disgusted tone while pointing her finger at me. The cold gaze in her eyes flickered to me as she spoke; but there was something else there as well, a different look, a fragment of something that I used to know.
'Oh, thanks! You're not so bad yourself,' I said sarcastically. My comment seemed to steam her up even further; her chest heaving now, nostrils flaring, with a light red glow developing from the top of her chest and up onto her rosy cheeks. I wonder how far down that crimson glow reaches; how would it feel against my lips, radiating a heat only for my touch.
'Shut it Cullen!'
'That's enough Isabella,' said Bella's father Charlie.
'No, this is so unfair! You are all forcing me to marry a stranger!' Bella said. We weren't really strangers though. But maybe that's what I had become to her, someone that she would rather forget about than remember the time that we spent together; forget what we meant to each other.
'Isabella it does not matter whether or not that Edward is a stranger to you. You will get married and you are to become Isabella Marie Cullen!' Charlie said in a very commanding voice; demanding that there is no rebuttal, but I knew Bella.
'But…but, first, I don't know anything about him, second, I don't love him, and third –'
'Stop it! Stop it, just stop it all of you!' I cut her off. Everyone at the table just stared at me shocked, just because I usually don't stick up for myself against my parent or elders, doesn't mean that I am incapable of doing so.
'Why are all of you so keen for Bella and I to get married?' I said in a rather calm voice. There was no point in loosing my cool in this matter, it would only aggravate all parties, best to keep myself calm so that then everyone else would mirror my stance.
'First, Edward you need to finally settle down, and your mother and I know that you're certainly not going to go out and meet someone. Second, Bella needs to stop acting like a slut –' said my father Carlisle, but was cut off by Bella.
'How dare you call me a slut! Not only is it not anyone's business what I do with my life or my body; you have no right to judge me! Just because my lifestyle is not the way you would like for a 'lady' to behave doesn't mean shit! You don't fucking know me! I come here to meet my parents for lunch and you people are here and I'm meeting you for the first time in my life! Then here you are calling me a fucking slut! Who the fuck do you think you are?!' Bella said in complete outrage and was practically screaming at my father. My own fist clenched in anger; that was no way to speak to anyone or judge someone for his or her life choices.
Carlisle then started to talk again through clenched teeth. 'As I was saying: You, Bella, need to stop being…well…well…you need to stop the way things are right now. You also need to settle down. Lastly, you two cannot do anything about this engagement. The wedding is next month and if you do not go through with this marriage then you will be cut off from your families money,' he finally finished.
'Not that I have to settle down according to you Carlisle, but I have already settle down!' said Bella. I looked at her shocked, that's probably the reason why she hasn't been on the news and gossip channels as much lately. She was always a party girl, being spotted nearly every weekend. It was her choice to do that, and there was nothing wrong with just, that's why it's so strange that drastically the socialising has stopped, or at least lessoned quiet significantly.
'What d-do you mean you've settled down?' my voice cracked a little. I for one didn't have that much of a problem with this marriage as Bella does. I actually am in love with her. We used to be friend, but she stopped once she started hanging out with other crowds and didn't seem to have time for me anymore. Or was it me that become too busy with my career and only fit her in when I could. Maybe I was the one that didn't make her a priority, when she should have been, and she got tired of that.
'Well you see, him and I weren't really going to go public about it now because we didn't want to be followed by the tabloids. I'm pretty sure you guys know him,' Bella said sheepishly.
'Who is he?' asked Carlisle.
'JacobBlack,' she mumbled quietly.
'Who?' I was growing impatient now! I need to know who this was! Who this person thought they were, coming into the picture and stealing my Bella from me! But I guess that's the point, she's not my Bella, not like I want her to be.
Bella cleared her throat and said, 'Jacob Black!'
'Wait one minute here! You mean to tell me that right now you are currently in a relationship with Jacob Black? As in Jacob Black who runs Black Co.?' Charlie asked, clearly shocked and a little intrigued. No! What if he would rather that Bella be with Jacob; bringing together to large companies, it's such a smart business venture. One that clearly, from the look on Charlie's face, he was considering.
'Yes,' Bella replied with a hopeful hint in her tone and was now smiling. I wish I could make her smile like that, if only she would smile that way about me.
'That does not change anything. Bella is still to be married to Edward, we had a deal Charlie!' Carlisle said, giving Charlie a pointed look. There's obviously much more there to the story and intentions than they are leading onto. Carlisle was trying to quickly brush aside the Jacob problem, but I knew that would last very long.
And I was right.
'What! Why? You just told me to 'settle down' and I'm settling down with Jacob,' she said as if it was the most obvious thing.
'So, Jacob and yourself are getting married?' Carlisle asked confidently, always on point, knowing very well the answer.
'Well…uh…um not really, it's too early in the relationship to be talking about marriage,' Bella said.
'Then you are to contact Jacob and tell him that your relationship is over and you are with Edward now,' Carlisle told Bella in a tone that suggest no objection.
Bella had the look of pure shock on her face, not understanding why her reasoning wasn't working. Her brow was furrowed and her bottom lip caught slightly between her teeth. I could tell that her mind was racing. She wanted out of this arrangement, but she couldn't risk what was threatened. She had to be smart about the situation.
'No! You can't do that! What is he is the one?! The one I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with. At least give us a change, then if it doesn't work out, I will marry Edward,' she said in a frustrated tone.
'I believe Carlisle is right Bella, you should end things with Jacob right now; to get it out of the way,' said Bella's mother Renee.
'But Mom, please, I don't want this,' said Bella. She looked like she was on the verge of tears. It was a trait she always had; her frustration would show this way, not because she was weak or couldn't handle a situation, but because if her frustration showed any other way, it would be punching someone in the face.
'Bella, be reasonable please. Look at your father and I; we had an arranged marriage, and now look at us, we're happily married and in love,' Renee told Bella.
'Oh my god. I can't believe this! I can't stay here. I'm going home,' Bella said while gather her things.
'Oh, Bella,' Charlie called.
'Yes, Dad,' Bella replied coldly, putting emphasis on 'dad', ensuring that Charlie understood that she thought he definitely wasn't acting like a caring father at this time.
'Your things have been moved. You are no longer living at the house which your mother and I bought you,' Charlie said as if it wasn't anything and he wasn't affected by anything that was happening, just simply another business deal.
'What! Where am I supposed to go then? I have nowhere to stay!' Bella said while pacing back and forth near the table.
'That isn't true Bella. You will be staying with Edward!'
