Similar and Yet… So Different.
Chapter 1: The Day You Crashed Into Me.
Italics: Letters between Lukas and Violet.
Bold Italics: Letters spoken and Typed.
The day I met you was the day I lost my job. Of course, I never once thought it was your fault, but hey, love works in strange ways, right? If you remember, my name is Lukas, Lukas Wilkstromm. I hope I didn't hurt you… you always talked about it like I did…
I was cycling along the road, my legs pumping as I had to take a whole ream of letters to the postboxes belonging to my father's company. I was already late.
'Oh god… I hope father's not gonna flay me alive!' I thought, not watching where I was going as I crashed hard into you, the bike bucking out from under me and taking my leg with it. I fell to the ground as the letters drifted around like fallen angels.
"Are you alright, sir?" you asked, your porcelain doll-like face greeting me with your pretty blue eyes as bright as the sky and your hair so pale and blond.
It took me a second to get my bearings when I realized what had happened to the bike and all the letters… and my leg.
"Sir?" you asked again as I looked up into your eyes.
"My leg… watch where you're going next time, okay?!" I snapped as you curtsied.
"I apologize, My name is Violet Evergarden, let me get that for you…" you sighed robotically.
"Thank you, Violet." I said.
I was trying to figure out what love was, and that day you crashed your bicycle into me was one you remembered fondly, right Lukas?
I saw your rather odd green eyes, as green as the grass, and your hair as black as pitch. You had only one leg. I felt a twinge of something in my heart… what was it?
"My leg…" you groaned, looking dejectedly at your fallen bicycle, then, your face twisted into one of anger, "Watch where you're going next time, okay?!" you snapped at me.
I curtsied, "I apologize, my name is Violet Evergarden, let me get that for you…" I stated.
"Thank you, Violet," you tersely repiled.
I assisted you with your vehicle, and gave you back your odd metal leg. That twinge went through my heart again, you looked no older than I was.
"How did you lose your leg, sir?" I asked.
"I was born without it. My Dad said there's no use crying over it…" You answered, smiling.
Why would you smile if that memory was meant to cause you pain? I did not know it at the time, but… you always found that leg to be a painful subject.
You looked at me with those blue eyes of crystal… and I felt something I haven't felt in a long time… something called curiosity, I think... I gotta say, your job as an Auto Memories Doll was fitting.
"How did you lose your leg, sir?" you asked, your voice calm and delicate.
"I was born without it. My Dad said there's no use crying over it…" I answered, a roguish smile on my face.
"My name is Lukas Wilkstromm, of Wilkstromm and Son's. Maybe I can come by your work sometime? I might need a job…" I laughed sheepishly.
I saw the ghost of a smile on your perfect lips, and my heart pounded. I miss you, Vi.
I saw that roguish smile of yours, and my heart twinged. Something about you reminded me of someone I used to know, I miss you, Lukas Wilkstromm of Wilkstromm and Son's.
"Lukas, that is the last time I'll ever let you run letters again! Idiot child!" Father yelled at me as I left on my now stripped bare bike.
I had to send a letter to my mother… she used to really like you, Vi. My father was a different story…
"Excuse me, Is Miss Evergarden available? I need to send a letter…" I said, as I was led back to where you worked, patiently waiting for someone to come in, and then the boy who crashed his bike into you came in.
"Oh, Mister Wilkstromm," you greeted as I sat down clumsily, setting my cane down next to me.
"Hey, Violet, I got a letter for you," I said.
That moment you took off those gloves… was the moment I knew I wasn't alone. Even if you acted like a soldier. You… Violet Evergarden, made my world a little brighter. I'll hold those hands, always! You can count on that!
Your eyes lit up when you saw my hands… were they really that special? You recited a long letter to your mother, and I remember how earnest it was… how heartfelt it was.
Dear Mother, it's been a long time since our last engagement. I miss you very much and hope to see you again soon. Father fired me from my job at the letter service. I cannot believe it had happened initially. I sent you a gift, did you enjoy it?
You had your eyes closed, Lukas… you never shed a single tear.
I probably had my eyes closed, right? Well… I love you.
I… love you.
Love, Lukas Wilkstromm.
Love, Violet Evergarden.
A.N: I know this was short! But I hope you liked this chapter! I started watching it a while ago… and I love it!
