DISCLAIMER: I do not own anything to do with Elfen Lied (if I did you'd all be bowing to me MWAHAHAHAHA!) Nah honestly, I don't own anything, I don't even own my ass; that belongs to Haydn and Rachel. Damn….
Anyway, I've just finished watching the series and I just felt so inspired (and sniffley) after watching the finale. It was so touching and sad. Anyway this is like a representation of my emotions and my sort of interpretation of the characters' feelings. Hope you enjoy it!
Remembrance…
Darkness still smothered the city as a young man sits on the giant stone steps surrounded by flurries of cherry blossom and the soothing sound of the ocean. He looks up at the sky the glances over to the vast freeway that can be glimpsed in the distance. A shiver wracks his body and he draws his body down to his knees, beginning to muse to himself.
" I don't really know who you are, over time I guess I've sorta lost track. I know my memory is shot, not that I know how you'd react to me forgetting anyway. I can still see you here, in that stupid hat; I never did have the best fashion sense did I."
His thin lips tried a smile but it quickly vanished as his eyes began to shine with wetness in the darkness. He took a deep breath and started rubbing his arms to keep warm.
" I want to ask you to come back, want to keep you in my arms… But yeah, you're right. You had to go, and I don't blame you. Heck if I were you I'd hate humans too."
Now he did smile, though weakly but as if reminiscing or finding some personal or frail humour in the tragedy that seemed to have befallen him.
" You know what's strange? At the same time you tore me apart you were holding me together! Just when things couldn't get any more complicated huh?"
Now he looked down, and let tears roll from his deep eyes. A small sob escaped his throat and he regained his sincere murmuring.
" I wanted to say that I'm sorry. Sorry for the lie that changed you. I just wanted…. No… Its all in the past now, huh? Soon to be joined by my memory of you. S'all over, for now I guess."
He paused and looked out and the ocean again. He felt the threads of memory running through his mind as recollections of a previous day occurred to him. He closed his eyes and let the wind whistle past him, blowing oceanic scents around his nostrils, calming him.
" I did tell you that I loved you didn't I? I hope I did…. I wouldn't have wanted you going without knowing."
A new voice, the voice of a female, rang clear and strong across the steps. Echoing down to the pensive man sitting below her.
" Kohta? Kohta are you here?"
The girl emerged at the top of the stairs with her hands clasped to her chest in worry. She searched around with her eyes until they settled finally on her friend, seated now in silence.
" Kohta! Kohta there you are! Lets go home… please."
The man, Kohta, stood and took something out of his pocket. He fumbled with it for a second then took another deep breath. He forced a smile and spoke again, whispering into the air.
" Well this is it I guess. Goodbye? I wrote this note for you. My Nyu, my sad lonely girl. I'll be seeing you soon."
Then he tore up the paper in his hand and let it blow away in the air. A very sentimental and probably worthless gesture, he thought. But everyone has their own way of grieving don't they. Yes, he thought, this would do. Then he turned and left with his back turned on the shadows that lurked in his mind and around the form of the horned girl that stayed buried within.
