Are You Sure?
A/N: I wrote this for lieutenantlovegood on her birthday in April. I never showed it to anyone but her, but I just got a message saying I should post this here! Just Fruna fluff ahead, guys! Enjoy.
"So, are you going to tell me what's up?"
Fred glanced up from the pretentious magazine he was doodling over (which he may have borrowed-stolen-from underneath Percy's pillow) to see his twin brother looking at him interestedly.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh, you know. You haven't been really hiding it to well. I could give you advice, if you want."
"You? Give me advice?! You know nothing about what this is like."
"There, you do know what I'm talking about."
Fred sighed in defeat, and lowered his gaze from George's back to some article in the magazine in his lap about how to properly iron your robes. The grin which had previously been mischievously playing on George's face vanished as he adopted a serious expression.
"Fred, we know each other better than everyone else out there. You can trust me with this, I want what's best for you.
"I saw the way you argued with the Patil twins last night. They'd only mentioned "Loony" once and you had a right go at them. And don't get me started on when you tricked that kid who had thrown her favourite necklace at the giant squid to eat Puking Pastilles."
"Well, George, it's not fair! She doesn't deserve that, she doesn't deserve any of that! How those people could be so cruel to Luna is just ridiculous! She's the kindest, smartest, greatest person I know."
George beamed at his brother who had now stood up from where he was sitting on his bed.
"Well, why don't you tell her that?"
x
"I don't know, Ginny. Maybe he's just being nice."
"Oh, don't be daft, Luna. I've lived with Fred for long enough to tell he absolutely, definitely, has a crush on you."
Luna blushed as she leaned closer towards Ginny on the bench they shared.
"Are you sure? Are you really, really sure?"
Glancing over her friend's shoulder, Ginny quickly got up from the bench but leaned down to whisper in Luna's ear.
"Why don't you ask him yourself?"
With that she walked out of the doorway, where a surprisingly embarrassed Fred stood. Nervously, he approached Luna who stood up to face him properly.
"You see, I was thinking-"
"I was just wondering-"
They smiled at each other when they spoke at the same time.
"You go first."
"No, you go first."
"I'm not speaking until after you do."
"Well, I'm not either."
After a few moments of staring at the other to try and get them to speak; they burst out laughing. Fred tried many times to regain his composure to tell her what he wanted to, but kept chuckling again as he listed to Luna's relentless giggling.
Finally he reached a point when he could stop, and speak again normally.
"Luna, I…I think you're…you're…"
She stopped laughing as she met his eyes and saw the sincerity in his features.
"I think you're the greatest person I have ever met even better than George even better than Harry Potter and you're just so smart and clever and funny and beautiful and I think I want to kiss you."
He took a big breath as he finished his hurried speech, and opened his eyes to see Luna's glistening with moisture.
"You…you want to kiss me?"
Seemingly to feign nonchalance, Fred shrugged his shoulders; but she could tell he was just doing from embarrassment.
"Yeah, I guess. I blame Nargles."
"Oh, I think Wrackspurts are the reason for how my head feels now."
After grinning at her once more; Fred stepped closer until he could press his lips to Luna's.
