Ever since she was gifted the strain, she enjoyed every glimpse of daylight she could get.
But as of right now, it was best for her to remain a stalker of the night, and always keep her guard up. She was restless, but even that was nothing new to her. It was part of her job, and it's always been like that. Especially since the outbreak.
As she was looking through the old house's window, carefully seeking for suspect movements outside, the first rays of light started to sink into the living room, slowly, but surely, letting her know it was now dawn. Early birds had already started their whistling routine. Hearing them has always been a slight relief for her. She let out a sight and smiled a bit, feeling peaceful...
-What has you smiling like that? You let your guard down!
She rapidly turned her head towards the direction of the voice. He was standing by the doorway, looking at her with curiosity, yet for a moment, he sounded worried.
She stared back at him, but quickly returned to her guarding duty, keeping quiet. She's never been too fond of speaking her feelings, but with him, everything was different. She found it was easier to talk, and she trusted him more than anyone else she'd ever met, and there were lots of them. Regardless, she most definitely wasn't ready to talk about what just happened, so she ignored the remark altogether.
But he insisted.
-Come on now! I know you have something in mind! Sneaking up on you is usually hard for anyone, especially me. You've left your guard down for a minute, and that alone stresses me out! Please say something!
She couldn't escape now. She had to reassure him.
-I'm fine, she said bluntly, not even budging an inch.
-No you're not! Something's getting you all fucking weird and distr...
-Look; she interrupted, annoyed; there's a lot of things going on right now, and we're being hunted down days and nights , so yes, I do make a lot of thinking...
She calmed down, then continued:
-I love our small talks, but for now, there's no time. We need to plan our next move. Maybe another day.
He raised his hands in submission.
-Alright, I'll drop it for now. But please be careful in the future. I don't want you to get killed or injured because of a moment of distraction.
She looked back at him, relieved.
-Thanks.
-I love you, darling.
-Me too.
-So, about that planning you spoke of...
