AN: This is a one- shot for Doctor who. I wanted to do a little character piece for Ace. If you haven't seen any of the episodes with her GO WATCH THEM NOW! Go to crossingthewhoniverse (dot) com and watch them. Ace is one of the best companions of all time. Presume this happens before Curse of Fenric.
He always told her to call him the Doctor. Ace figured he had some secret, nath name he never told anyone. Her real name was Dorothy (her own mum hated her!), but she called herself Ace. Since all everyone called her that, didn't that make it her name?
Everyone called her professor Doctor except for her. It wasn't that she didn't like the name, it was something else.
She had a teacher at her old school, a bajillion years ago, who demanded that everybody call him professor. Of course, she never did, preferring to make up insulting names for him behind his back.
Ace remembered the first time she met the Doctor, in that shabby restaurant in Iceworld. He immediately caught her attention, with his talk of adventure and treasure. But more so, his obvious intelligence. He was on a level higher than anyone she had ever known, including herself. She remembered thinking, "Now that's a professor."
When he took her with him, she had figured that she better make herself useful. She appointed herself the Doctor's bodyguard. In return, the Doctor had begun to "educate" her.
This was really why she called him professor. He thought her sole reason was to annoy him, and as satisfying as that was, it was because he was a teacher to her. And, in her mind, a father.
Now they were walking into an army base*, and Ace jumped to the introduction. "I'm Ace, this is the professor."
"The Doctor," he corrected hastily, then proceeded to lecture the soldiers.
"Yes, definitely my professor," thought Ace smiling slightly.
An: *I have no idea if this happens in Battlefield or not. Just don't ask.
