i. miracles

The sun
Refused
To forget our war
For days.
It was red
Like the blood
That now failed
To pump through so many's veins.

It rose each morning,
Splattering its light on the stone,
Making us wonder
If it had not yet been cleaned.
It went to sleep at the night,
Setting the forest on fire,
Treetops burning with light.

When we went outside,
Our faces glowed red,
Hair framed by the same magic
As the trees.
I wish our hair had been framed
By the glow from our wands
As we snuck
Around the castle,
Not
By the echoes of curses
Hanging in the air.
Too many I wishes and too few
Come trues.

Even with the scent of victory in the air,
We couldn't keep our noses up long enough
To smell it.
I could tell it would take a miracle
For all of this to heal.
It's a good thing I believe in miracles.

It felt wrong,
To have our little bit of happiness,
So we hid it.
We hid it between hands under tables and
Lingering stares, between
Bringing each other food and
Star-spilled nights in the Astronomy Tower,
Where it felt like the whole world had collapsed below us,

And we were the only ones there.

It was all light kisses and
Combing her hair with my fingers,
Smiles we weren't allowed to have and
Breaths we shouldn't be taking,
But it was us,
And we could live with that,
This thing we had brought up from
Chaos and destruction and if we die.
And maybe, just maybe,
This is our chance to get this right,
The near-perfect girl and boy with hair
As bright as the sunrise
As it came over the trees,
Showing our victory to the world,
And giving us reasons
To believe in miracles.

A/N: So I finished this poem, and then just kept writing. And now there are fourteen poems that make up a cohesive story. Aside from some editing, I don't intend on changing much. Over the course of 2-4 weeks, I'll publish a new chapter every 1-2 days or so. I know stories in verse aren't the most popular, but I hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to follow for more, favorite, and review!
