[[I noticed a few people enjoyed the Layton/Emmy oneshot: "To Help a Lady In Need" I wrote a while ago. So I decided to write this part of the Eternal Diva from Emmy's point of view.]]
"MELINA!" Oswald Whistler bellowed, reaching out to the sky as if he could pluck his daughter from atop Descole's Detra-Gigant and bring her safely back down to earth beside him.
Emmy quickly restrained the composer by his shoulders before he could rush forward and be crushed by the huge machine. "Mr Whistler...!" she chided him. Honestly, Emmy was beginning to get the impression that Oswald Whistler was a foolish old goat. First he'd been deceived by Descole—Who in their right mind trusted a man wearing a creepy white mask?—and now he was trying to run head first into his death.
Mr Whistler fell to his knees and begged pitifully "Please... Someone save Melina."
Emmy's expression softened slightly. Maybe the old guy had made a lot of mistakes... but it was all for the benefit of his deceased daughter. Death had ripped Melina away from Mr Whistler the first time. Miraculously, she was returned to him (albeit, wrongly through the host bodies of kidnapped young girls), only for her to be carried off by an evil scientist.
"There is a way to save her," Professor Layton breathed.
"Oh?" Emmy looked at him expectantly. Of course, the professor had a plan. It would be just like before in Misthallery— she, Luke and the professor had beaten Descole's band of transforming robots (with a bit of help from Loosha).
This instance Descole's mechanical monster was a little...okay, a lot bigger, but Emmy knew nothing could stop the three of them when they worked together.
"Emmy..." She awaited her orders from the professor. (Would she have to take out the Detra-gigant's legs? It'd be more difficult than with Descole's spider robot...) Emmy was very surprised when the professor touched her arm and said "Stay here."
Wait... What?! Emmy was stunned. Before she could protest, the professor was already gliding down the ravaged slope, calling to his apprentice "Luke with me!"
"Coming— Uhhh!" Luke yelped as he skidded after his mentor.
Incredulous, Emmy walked to the edge of the hill; she watched as the professor and Luke raced towards the helicopter the professor had built earlier from everyday items he'd found in a random shed.
Emmy gritted her teeth. The professor had chosen Luke— a ten year old boy— over her. I brought a perfectly good plane to the island Emmy thought. Doesn't he realise that's much safer to fly than some crude homemade helicopter? She growled. You better make it back here alive, Hershel Layton. And when you do, we will be having serious words!
[[I re-watched this scene. It's only quick, but Layton does brush against Emmy before he leaves. :D I can't believe he forgot Emmy had a plane. How else did he think she'd reached the island?]]
