He tries to ignore the weight in his pocket. He's had it in there all day, waiting for the right moment to present it. Sora is talking about their homework assignment, but he's not paying attention. It doesn't matter anyway; they both know they'll be copying Kairi's homework before class tomorrow.

"I've gotta go. Mom's going to be so mad if I'm late for dinner again."

Well, it's now or never, right? Funny how scared he is over something that should be so damn simple. Still, he shoves his hand into his pocket and pulls it out. "Hey."

Sora turns around, and Riku tosses him the paopu fruit. Sora's eyes widen, and Riku smirks. He wonders if Sora notices the sweat starting to bead on his brow, or the sound of his heart fluttering against his chest. It's all in my head, he thinks, and he swallows the lump in his throat and shrugs.

"You never got to use the one I gave you before, right? So here's a new one. Make sure you actually do something with it this time."

There's a short, awkward silence, and Riku is sure that he'll toss it aside, crush it under his heel. Then Sora grins, and Riku lets out the breath he didn't realize he was holding.

"Sure, Riku. Whatever you say." He waves, then turns toward home. Riku smiles at his back. To his relief, Sora doesn't seem to notice the small bite mark on the corner of the paopu now in his hand.

With any luck, he won't see it at all.

Author's Note: I don't usually like to read or write for this pairing. It's not a pairing I particularly enjoy, and the fans (and anti-fans) tend to scare me silly. But I got this little scenario in my head, and it wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it. I hope you enjoy my little contribution to the SoRiku fandom.
