Okay, after I wrote Never Is A Promise, I realized that I had to do a follow up to it. Now, it came out a good bit shorter than the first one, but I felt that it was the right length. Enjoy, and please remember to review!

CICICICICICICICICI
Bobby Goren always hated wearing his dress blues.
More often than not, he was wearing them to the funeral of a fellow cop, a brother in blue. And today was no exception as he smoothed his hand over the front of his jacket.
Today was the funeral of Joe Dutton, a young cop whose career had just gotten started, and was ruthlessly cut short by one bullet. It was always terrible when a cop died in the line of duty, but one as young as this...
He quickly finished getting ready and headed to the church, where hundreds of other cops and family were already gathered.
After the funeral, he followed the other cars to the gravesite where he would be buried. As he got out of the car, he could hear one woman sobbing, and he wondered if she was the widow he had left behind. He straightened his jacket and followed somberly.
Ahead, he saw a young woman standing proudly with her shoulders squared. She was staring at the ground in front of her, and he wondered who she was. It was obvious that she was holding emotions back, probably because she didn't want any one else thinking that she was weak.
He managed to get closer and didn't say a word until guns were fired and a flag was folded carefully, then handed to the young blond woman. She was the widow, not the woman sobbing a few feet away from her. She silently took the flag, but he didn't miss the tears glistening in her eyes as the guns were fired once again overhead.
The casket was lowered slowly into the ground, and Bobby's chest constricted when he met the widow's eyes. They stared at each other for several long moments, and Bobby felt as though he could feel her pain himself. Then she finally looked away, and he dropped his gaze to the ground in front of him.
He felt the strange urge to go to her, to talk to her, but he forced himself to remain still. She had enough to deal with right now.
And the last gunshot fired into the air.
The End
