The Chronicles

She was unlike anything I ever knew, anyone I ever met, and most definitely NOT what I expected.

Well she was beautiful of course, all Princesses are aren't they? But still, she was different. She liked Weedrats, for the love of Pete!

I had feelings for her, I'll admit it, but I kept them hidden.

Princess Fiona.

Shrek.

Those names just didn't fit, it was like she said, Princess and ugly just don't go together.

I remember the day Donkey told me the truth, I flat-out refused to believe him. But deep inside, there was a flicker of hope, it was tiny, almost non-existent, but it was there all the same. I knew I loved her then, but that day, there were two emotions I had not experienced.

Love.

But also fear.

Fear that I wouldn't get there in time, fear she would reject me, fear of Donkey singing again.

I was shaking when we got to the church, even Donkey looked like he was nervous for me, or maybe it's because a dragon was in love with him, it was hard to tell at the time.

I could hear it all. They were almost done, and I knew I would lose her forever. I had to do something, I couldn't think, couldn't breathe.

"I OBJECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I had yelled, interrupting the wedding and receiving gasps from the bewildered guests.

Fiona was bewildered as well. Lord Faarquad looked plain irked. I yelled the reason, well, part of it anyway, why she couldn't marry him, he WAS just marrying her so he could be king right?

He took her hand and tried to persuade her to not believe it, and made a kissy-face, THAT was even scarier than Donkey's singing. Fiona looked disgusted as well, but then turned and looked out at the sunset through the gigantic stained-glass window.

"By night one way, by day another," she whispered. Before I could ask what she meant, she turned and faced me.

"I wanted to show you before" she backed up into the sunlight, I reached out, I hated her to be out of my reach again.

Suddenly, Fiona disappeared into the sunlight, and in her place, was an ogre. But it was her.

Without any warning, the guards swarmed and pulled us away from each other. I fought them like no other, I HAD to get to her.

Frantically I whistled, thank God for that dragon, I had thought.

Before anyone expected it, Dragon chomped down on the three-foot wonder, a relief, but a suprise nontheless.

"Go ahead Shrek," Donkey urged.

I nodded. "Uhh...Fiona?"

Fiona turned and gazed at me with those eyes, "Yes Shrek?"

"I uhh..." I looked at the floor, then back up at her, "I love you."

Fiona returned my gaze, "Really?"

I was never so sure of anything in my life, "Really really."

A small laugh escaped from her lips, "I love you too."

And then, I kissed her. That moment, that one important moment...

Princess Fiona and Shrek fit.

They fit perfectly.
