Disclaimer: You know the drill by now: if you believe I own Ranma, I won't
sell you the rights to it, but I can cut you a great deal on the Brooklyn
Bridge.
AN: I've seen enough fics based on a single line from the source material; I figured I could do one too. Besides, I've never seen this line ever referenced in any fanfic anywhere so hopefully that lends me some originality points. Be gentle, I'm a fragile soul. All comments, criticisms, and money gleefully accepted.
Those We Love
A Ranma½ Fanfiction

Damn it.
Kodachi looked at the slip of paper in her hand. By itself it was unimpressive at best; low quality card stock bore a stylized picture of bells on the front, inside the card had one sentence, an address and a time. The significance of the card was markedly more important. This card was an invitation to Ranma and Akane's wedding.
Kodachi knew Ranma didn't love her. He may never have said it, but she had and he never denied it. She hadn't spoken to him since then but she had made sure he saw her pass by on the street a few times and he hadn't said anything. Maybe he had never loved her, but she loved him; now he was getting married and her invitation was obviously sent so she would cause trouble.
Damn it!
Then again, perhaps she had been invited because he was willing to accept her friendship and this was some kind of modern olive branch. As a token of goodwill she would wish the newlyweds a happy life together. Kodachi could even serve as a first line of defense against any rivals who would attempt to keep the two apart.
Damn it.
This didn't make any sense. One of the things that attracted her to Ranma was his strong sense of honor; it wasn't like him to get married without calling off any conflicting arrangements. Kodachi knew that at least the engagement to the Kuonji girl was still in place; if those ties had been severed she would have heard about it within the day.
Damn it!
Another confusing thing was the time table. Ranma was hesitant about anything related to romance at best, and this was a shotgun wedding. The only explanation Kodachi could imagine would be if Akane was carrying Ranma's child, but Akane was notorious about rejecting Ranma's affections and Ranma was no rapist.
Damn it!!
What if this was a request for her to stop the wedding and she failed to do so? What if the man she loved wanted her to sabotage the wedding he was being forced into?
Damn it!!!
This wasn't like Ranma at all. If anything, it seemed more like a stunt that middle Tendo would pull. Considering that for a moment she realized that her invitation had to be Tendo Nabiki's doing. What she didn't know was on whose behalf this plan was executed. Ranma's? Akane's? The Tendo family? Nabiki's own greed?
Damn it all to hell!
There were too many "maybes," and time was running out. She needed more information, maybe she could-
Damn it, another "maybe!"
Grabbing two dresses out of her closet, one appropriate to wear to a friend's wedding the other better suited for her own. Kodachi determined that she would spy on the situation and act as Ranma's advocate. She prayed that if she had to prevent Ranma's wedding he might someday forgive her; in her heart she knew she would never forgive anybody that destroyed any wedding she might have, but that was a maybe she would have to live with.
