At the Doorstep of a Heart

A loud crash and thud could be heard from the living room of Monkey D. Residence.

"Try to say it one more time, you ungrateful brat!" Garp roared furiously after hitting his older grandson, sending him fly knocking the coffee table.

"I'll say it as many times as you want, old man. I want to be a pirate," Ace talked back calmly, wiping the blood from his mouth.

"Like hell I will permit that!"

"I don't need your permission. I am only saying good bye," Ace stood and grabbed his backpack. Then he turned his back and walked to the door.

"Ace, if you step out of that door, don't bother coming back!"

Ace stopped for awhile, but didn't turn his face at his grandfather. "I'll leave Luffy in your care," he said quietly and walked out the door, eyes and face determined.

As he set his feet outside, Luffy came out as well from beside the house. He approached Ace slowly and grabbed the hem of Ace's trousers.

"Are you going now?" Luffy asked, eyes looking at his straightly.

"Yeah, sorry Luff, I have to go first," Ace grinned solemnly at the sight of his beloved little brother.

"Then...when will you come back?" Luffy asked with the hint of uneasiness in his voice.

"I won't," Ace said slowly, determined but also sadly.

Luffy widened his eyes for a second and then he opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something. Still then, he looked at another way and shook his head. "Then, I won't wait for you," Luffy said then, with a smile in his face.

"Take care the house and gramps for me, Luff," Ace said and ruffled Luffy's hair fondly. The older boy couldn't see the younger's face because of the messy hair and his hand. Then he turned his back.

However, before Ace walked away, Luffy grabbed his hand and pulled his older brother to give him a kiss on his lips. Ace widened his eyes in surprise. "A good luck charm," Luffy grinned at him.

"Jeez," Ace blushed a bit at the childish attitude. Then he softened his eyes and leant closer to give his little brother a proper kiss this time.

At the harbor, Ace had been standing on his boat and Luffy was at the harbor's deck.

"I'll go now," Ace informed.

"Don't die on the road," Luffy grinned.

"You...," Ace looked annoyed, sweat dropping.

As the wave brought him away, Ace still looked at the smaller figure at harbor. Luffy still waved his hands at him.

"Ace!" the little brother shouted. "Even though I won't wait for you at house, I'll wait for you here!" Luffy thumbed his chest, showing the older brother his feeling.

Ace widened his eyes and the tears started pooling there. "Stupid idiot...!" Ace smiled then, the tears running down to his cheeks.

Luffy looked at his disappearing brother with a content smile. "Someday...when we meet again, I'll welcome you home... at the doorstep of my heart."

The End
