Chapter 1: First Day
"Hey, check out the new redhead." Caleb said as his group of friends walked slowly across the courtyard to the entrance of the school building. There had been rumors the last few days of a new student coming soon, but not many of them painted the girl in a good light. In fact, many of them pointed to her being a druggie, whore or gang member. Actually, some of the rumors said she was all three which made a lot of the students very nervous.
Sheffield Institute was not only the best high school in the area, there being one other, but it was a private school. Many of the students here came from some of the more wealthy families in the area, most with stern families and even stricter backgrounds. That made the campus pretty much a safe haven from most trouble, but with all of the whispering going on about the soon to be new student, many of them were starting to worry about her wreaking the so called peaceful atmosphere.
Peaceful atmosphere? That was a joke as he well knew that Sheffield was anything but that. There were cliques like at any other school including the troublemakers that even had several drug users and drug dealers. The difference was they didn't openly advertise it and the few times they were close to being busted they idiots somehow became smart enough just long enough to outmaneuver any investigations. Hell, Caleb knew all that because he wasn't so innocent himself...or at least he used to not be.
"Who cares about her?" Cornelia huffed, squeezing his arm making him wince a bit and pull his gaze from the bus parked at the gates where the redhead was walking slowly from the unmoving vehicle looking around the campus in surprise.
"I was just thinking that maybe we should offer to help her." Caleb said sheepishly as he scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. Another benefit to a private school such as this, no books and all homework was done over the internet and email which left them free to not worry about carrying a bunch of heavy books.
"Why help her? You know what everyone says about her." Cornelia said, a bit of an arrogant tone coloring her voice. The look in her face told another story though as Caleb stared down at his girlfriend in disappointment, realizing that the blonde was feeling a little jealous which didn't even make much sense to him.
"Oh come on Corny, give the girl a break. She might be kind of fun." Irma said while giving one of her cheesy grins to the couple as Taranee walked beside her.
"Don't call me that!" Cornelia nearly hissed out as she let go of Caleb and moved to intercept other girl making Caleb roll his eyes in anticipation of another fight. Whoever said that a cat fight was every man's dream was an idiot...that or he didn't know these two.
"Guys, class now fight later." Came Hay Lin's chipper voice as she hurried past the group just as the first bell started to ring making the group wince at the shrill noise.
"I swear we get more rings than a bathtub." Taranee grumbled as she rubbed her ears, making the other wince for an entirely different reason this time while Caleb only smiled. The others may have hated the younger girl's puns at times, thinking of them as pun-ishment, but Caleb thought they could often be cute and even funny at times.
"Uhg...really Tare, that's just so wrong." Cornelia grumbled as the group moved together into the building before splitting apart to head to their separate classrooms.
Will looked around the courtyard, a little awed by how huge and beautiful the school looked. It wasn't like any of her previous schools and after riding with a bus full of students, she doubted that it would be any fun. Of course, maybe that was a good thing as she didn't really want to screw up her probation. Not that anyone would give a damn that is.
Sighing, she adjusted the straps of her backpack and headed off across the courtyard while ignoring some of the stares she got from the student body around her. She heard the whispers on the bus of the students making fun of her clothes being old and worn, but those were the more tolerable whispers. There were other whispers as some students asked others if they thought if the new redhead was the whore who was transferring in while others asked if that was the druggie sitting in the back of the bus by herself.
It was enough to bring a tear to Will's eye, but she refused to cry over these stupid pieces of shit. All she had to do was piss off the new principal of this prep heaven and Will could get the hell out of there. Question was, did she want to do that? It would mean going to jail possibly, but what else did she have to look forward to? She really wasn't interested in being here or going to jail so she was screwed either way, much like how she viewed her life.
"Miss Vandom I presume?" An older, somewhat large woman asked breaking the redhead from her spiral of thoughts.
"Just Will." Will said, the response almost a habit by now after all of the bureaucratic bullshit she had gone though over the last few months.
"Okay, Will, I'm Principal Knickerbocker. If you would follow me, I'll show you to my office and get your stuff for you." The older woman said while giving what had to be an attempt at an encouraging smile. It didn't encourage the redhead much, though it did do a good job of making her stomach lurch. The thought of the old woman humoring the little drug addict pissed Will off as it appeared as if the woman was going through the motions and didn't give a shit what really happened to the young woman. It helped settle the redhead's internal debate on what to do, if this woman wanted to be another hypocritical bitch then fuck her!
The short walk into the building and through the security gates was a quiet one as the two made their way a short way down the hall before entering a typical office with several women going back and forth carrying stacks of paper. Several of them stopped to give Will a smile or greeting that the redhead just ignored. Instead she followed the woman into the back of the office into another door where there was a large desk with stacks of paper scattered over the desk and several pens on top. There was also an expensive looking computer setup as well right in the middle of the mess which made a red eyebrow arch in question.
"Please have a seat Will." Mrs. Knickerbocker said before going around the desk to settle in the large executive leather chair that looked way more comfortable than it should. In fact the chair that Will sat in was a smaller match to it and made her sigh in delight as she sat down making the older woman giggle a little before straightening back up making Will frown. "I guess first of all I should explain a few things about the school here. Sheffield is a small school compared to some of the cities that you have been in. In fact, a number of the children in town attend the public school at the edge of town leaving us with a small percentage."
"So the school is full of a bunch of preppy assholes? Wonderful." Will huffed as she crossed her arms to glare at the older woman.
"Not at all." Mrs. Knickerbocker said with a small laugh, "Most of our students may come from more...wealthy families, but for the most part they are far from being preppy. We try to teach our students that everyone is equal and should be treated as such, and most of them do a good job of that."
"You make it sound as if this is some sort of perfect school for perfect little children. Well I have news for you, teenagers aren't perfect...no one is." Will snorted in disgust at the thought of the woman trying to talk up her precious school.
"And I'm sure you know all about that, don't you Will?" Mrs. Knickerbocker said with a sad smile as she dug through the paperwork scattered on the desk. "Please excuse the mess dear, we are working on transferring all of the paperwork onto the school's new network. Ah, here we are." Picking up a slightly thick folder, the older woman held it up to her eyes, looking over the top of the manila envelope. "Do you know what this is?"
"No, why don't you tell me?" Will asked as she eyed the folder. It couldn't be her school records as she had seen them more than once and the file was three times as thick as this.
"These, my dear, are your official school records." Mrs. Knickerbocker sighed as she leaned over the side of the desk and fed it to the paper shredder. "You are getting a new start here for the most except for the terms of your probation. I am going to help you to the best of my ability if you let me."
"We both know what's going to happen, so let's just get it over with." Will snorted as she flipped the older woman the bird while saying, "Fuck you!"
"We will have none of that!" Mrs. Knickerbocker said, her eyebrow twitching as she was obviously keeping from snapping at the redhead. "You not only used up your second chance, but your third, fourth and fifth chances as well. Normally you would even be in jail right now, but by some stroke of luck, or divine intervention, I came across your story. I offered to take you when no other school would even touch you to try and keep you out of jail and give you an honest chance to straighten your life up. Don't make me regret it."
"As if you have the power to help me get out of jail. My probation officer probably got me stuck in this stupid school to look like he was all noble." Will said as she glared at the older woman.
"Young lady, I am the third richest woman in the state after my husband died and left me his fortune. You would be surprised what kind of contacts I have and what I can do. As for this school, this IS a private school that I not only own, but run as well. I decide who to give scholarships to from the applications that come in and when I see someone who I truly think can benefit from it I do my best to get them here." Mrs. Knickerbocker explained, her voice taking on a bit of a harsher tone at first, but was quickly replaced by the softer one that Will was starting to know her for. "That said, I should explain how we work the school here since it is ran a little differently. Since you don't qualify for any of the honors programs, you will be placed in one of the alpha classes."
"Alpha classes?" Will asked, unable to help herself. What the hell was an alpha class?
"I'm experimenting with how the school is run to make the learning environment here the best as possible for the students here. Alpha classes spend the first half of the day taking core classes on the second floor, staying in one room while the teachers rotate rooms while beta class has the last half of the day. Since you are an alpha, your extra classes will be in the afternoon on the third and fourth floors. Like other schools though, those classes you will have to change rooms for since they are more catered to what you want to do and not what you are required to learn." Mrs. Knickerbocker explained as she pulled one of her desk drawers open and pulled out a tablet and a charger before sitting it on the desk in front of Will. "We are also trying to create an environmental friendly school, so all of our students use tablets with e-books of all the school's text books. Homework is all done on your home computer and emailed to your teachers before the day the assignment is due."
"And what if I don't have a computer...or internet?" Will asked, for some reason feeling embarrassed about the fact since it sounded like all of the students here had both. Yep, this was going to work out well...more fuel for the fire for these preppy little bastards to use to mock her. As if she cared, but if she didn't, why was it bothering her like this?
"I had a feeling dear, I already spoke to your instructors and everyday on your way home you are to stop off here and pick up a flash card with your assignments on it and drop it off back here before school." Mrs. Knickerbocker explained, "As for your computer, stop off here before you go home and see me and I'll have something for you."
"Gee, thanks." Will said sarcastically.
"Your welcome." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as she once again laughed softly at the redhead. "Do you know how to use a tablet? Have you ever used one before?"
"Do I look like I ever used one before?" Will asked snidely as she waved her hands over herself indicating her current outfit that was purchased from a shabby looking thrift store. She couldn't even afford Goodwill or the Salvation Army, instead being forced to shop at a very questionable secondhand store.
"I don't know, you could have, but I will take that as a no." Mrs. Knickerbocker sighed before calling out, "Janice, get me Hay Lin from Alpha class 207."
"Right away Mrs. Knickerbocker!." A voice called back in.
"I think you two might get along well, Hay Lin's a good young woman. As for you, you will have free time this afternoon though you can not leave school grounds. Your tablet has all of the junior year books on it, so it will have everything you need to get started. I also included information about all of the extra classes you can take so take time to look through them during your free time this afternoon and pick what you would like to take and let me know when you see me before you leave. I also put information about the school clubs on the tablet since we urge all students to join at least one, but it isn't mandatory."
"You wanted to see me?" A petite Asian girl asked as she stepped into the office which made Will frown. It was one of the girls that was staring at her this morning from that one group that was near the school when she got off the bus which caused the redhead to grimace.
"Yes, this is our new student Hay Lin. Hay Lin, meet Wilhelmina Vandom, but I think she prefers to be called Will." The older woman said making Will snort. "Will, this here is Hay Lin, she is in your class. Hay Lin, would you mind being Will's guide today and show her around the school and help her get started with her tablet since she isn't used to them?"
"Sure thing, Mrs. Knickerbocker!" Hay Lin chirped in an almost sic kingly sweet voice.
"Thank you dear, the teachers already know Will is new here and knows to cut her and her guide some slack so don't worry about hurrying back. Make sure to show Will the cafeteria, the gym, locker rooms, her locker of course and where the ladies rooms are located." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as she dug through the paperwork again before handing Will an envelope. "While we are trying to get rid of as much paperwork as we can, we still have some. Your mother already filled out what is needed, but you will still have to pick up a new one every month. You are actually our first student to need this, so we haven't come up with a good system yet. For now just show that to the cashier at lunch."
"Gee thanks." Will grumbled as she paled a bit, realizing what it was. A free lunch card that meant this girl would also probably know and spread it around the school. Not that the other students on line wouldn't see her using it.
"You girls better get moving now, I have a lot of work to do here. Don't forget to come see me again after school Will." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as Will jumped out of the chair and followed Hay Lin from the office, ignoring the gossiping women working in the front office as the two girls made their way into the hall.
"So, I guess you know my name is Hay Lin and your Will." Hay Lin said, that bright smile on her face making the redhead just want to wipe it off. Instead of knocking it off though, she just sighed in annoyance.
"Yeah, so we know each other, just show me how to use this damn thing already." Will snapped making the other girl's smile falter just a bit.
"Let's go over here to the benches." Hay Lin said leading the red haired girl to one of the ornate looking benches with red padded seats lining the part of the hall around the office where the pair sat down, the smaller girl taking the tablet from Will and pushing the power button. "Okay, you don't have to do it now, but you really should set a password to this sometime. You see these folders here on the home screen? This one here is labeled Text Books so of course this is where the books for your classes are kept. This one marked library is just that, the library. We don't have an actual library here, all of the books are actually ebook versions that is synched with your tablet. This one here is labeled Extra Classes which has details about all of the classes such as art and gym. And by the way, you are required to take one semester each year of some of the extra classes and they will be marked in red so pay attention to those. This folder here has all of the school clubs, there are some kind of weird clubs at the school actually. As long as a club has a sponsor for it and it meets the schools requirements, it can become a club as long as there are enough students to fill it."
"That's nice and all, but how do I use the stupid thing?" Will sighed, the long winded explanation giving her a headache. All she wanted was the basics and get away from this girl, it wasn't like they were going to all of a sudden become best friends or something.
"Well, you should think about a club because a lot of classes give you extra credit or leeway on assignments if the club does something helpful for the community." Hay Lin chirped, ignoring the growing look of annoyance on the other girl's face.
"Like your club helps people." Will said, holding back a laugh. What did this girl do, talk people to death? Somehow Will doubted that counted as helpful...then again, who was she to say? It wasn't like snorting coke or downing a six pack in exchange for...shaking her head Will forcibly pulled her thoughts away from that path. She didn't want to think of some of the shit she's done over the last couple years, she hated herself over it and really didn't want to relive it in her thoughts.
"We do, I'm a part of the youth group that's sponsored by Pastor Hale. In fact, tonight is the youth group's girl night where us girls go meet at my family's restaurant the Silver Dragon. It's free food and a lot of fun, you should join." Hay Lin said hopefully, only for it to not only be smashed, but to also be stomped and danced on.
"So you are a part of a bunch of fucking bible bangers?" Will sneered in disgust. "So what are you doing to help each other tonight? Paint each others toenails? Give each other makeovers? Yeah, some help that is."
"It's not like that." Hay Lin said as she rubbed her eyes fighting back tears. "We're just getting together to talk about upcoming projects like going to volunteer at the retirement home."
"Look, I'm sorry, don't cry. Just show me how to pull the stuff up and I'll get out of your hair." Will sighed, feeling like a total heel for making the girl upset. She normally didn't give a shit, but this girl seemed so innocent and naive...something Will usually hated. There was just something about this girl though that called to her, but not in a romantic way. More in the way of seeing a lost puppy and wanting to take it in.
"No, it's my job to be your guide and that's what I'm going to do." Hay Lin said, her voice firm as she looked at the screen in determination as she held it so Will could see it also. "Okay, you have these folders and you just touch one and it opens up. Click the little X here to close it back. To open up something, you do the same." Hay Lin explained while doing so, opening a folder a few times and closing it. "This right here is your schedule and locker information." Hay Lin tapped the screen on one of the icons under the folders causing Will's schedule to expand showing her name, home room and blanks for her afternoon classes and her locker number and combination. Tapping the X she closed it back and tapped the last icon opening a map of the school. "And this is the map of the school, these numbers on the side open up the map for whatever floor you need."
"Wait, why is there a red dot there?" Will asked, genuinely curious as if she was reading it right, it was where she was at that very moment.
"That's something else that is nice, but a lot of students hate it. When you come on the property you are supposed to turn your tablet on and keep it on at all times. It shows you where you all at that exact moment and if someone needs to find you from the office they can just put your student number in the office computer to find you. You need a good excuse if your tablet goes off because otherwise you will be considered playing hooky." Hay Lin explained making Will shuffle nervously.
This sounded more like a way to control where she was at all times being a trouble student...well extremely troubled student. Was this just some bullshit Hay Lin was feeding her about the map keeping track of all students locations. "Wh-where is your tablet? Does it do that to?"
"Right here, and yep all the school's tablets do." Hay Lin said as she pulled her tablet from her handbag and showed it to Will, tapping the map feature. Sure enough there was a dot, but closer inspection showed that the tablets were almost identical. "They are school issued tablets and you are expected to keep it with you the entire time you are here. It's included in the school fees. Thank the lord that I qualified for a partial scholarship or I would never have been able to come. After all, they aren't exactly cheap being custom made by Simultech for the school. And don't worry, there's no way someone can steal yours because each one has an embedded code that is also your student number."
"That's a relief." Will said, not really meaning it. Sure it wouldn't be nice if someone stole her tablet to mess with the new kid, but then again she was thinking about selling the stupid thing off the first chance she got. Thinking about what the girl said about scholarship made the redhead warm up toward the girl a bit. Hay Lin may have been naive sounding, but maybe she would understand Will just a little.
"Here, you try it." Hay Lin said as she put her tablet up and pushed Will's into the redhead's hands who took the slate like device and started opening and closing folders finding it kind of fun.
"Wait, how about test? Why bother with doing all our work on a computer to make the school environmentally friendly if we need to do exams on paper?" Will asked curiously as she scanned down the list of books in the library. At the very top of the list were books that were recommended for her year as well as the student handbook.
"That's easy, when we have an exam the teacher passes out micro cards with our names labeled on them with an app that runs the test on our tablet. In fact, that's another reason you need to keep your tablet on. School bulletins are sent directly to your tablet as messages that will flash on the screen. The little letter at the bottom takes you to your inbox to view them, just use it the same way you use the folders." Hay Lin explained as she looked up at the clock hanging above one of the classroom doors. Unlike the huge white clocks at most schools, this was a sleek digital clock that blended into the woodwork around the door. "Come on, let's get you comfortable with where everything is."
Will had to admit, the school seemed really nice if a bit large for the somewhat small student body. Sure there were at least a few hundred students, but nowhere as many as any of her old schools. In fact the classed seemed to only have about twenty students at most in them from what little she learned from Hay Lin. The girl explained a lot, but it was honestly mostly gibberish to the redhead who had a hard time keeping up with the girl's explanations that sometimes left Will wondering if she ever ran out of air. In fact the redhead couldn't help but think that if the girl was some kind of superhero or mythical creature it would probably be something to do with air. Maybe something with wings, a fairy maybe...
"I can't believe Mr. Collins gave us a pop quiz." Irma sighed as she leaned her head back so she could look at Hay Lin who sat behind the girl and to the left of Will.
"At least it doesn't go towards our grades though." Hay Lin laughed, "That was a nice surprise."
"Yeah, pick on the new kid." Will grumbled. As it turned out after the test Mr. Collins explained it was just a practice test to see where everyone was and to get the new student used to how the system worked here at Sheffield. You would think that something like that would have made the students happy, but instead Will became the receiver of over a dozen hostile glares as soon as the teacher left the room giving the class a few minute break between instructors.
"Hey, don't sweat it Red, we are all new at some time. Right Hay-Hay." Irma said making Hay Lin giggle and Will groan at the girl's obvious tendency to call other people nick names. "Anyways one more subject then lunch, I'm starved!"
"You have to eat with us." Hay Lin said making Will fidget nervously. She didn't want to really be seen hanging out with a religious freak because then if she met anyone cool here then it might make it harder to get in good with them. And by cool, she meant someone more like Will. She had doubts about finding someone like that though here. Then again, she didn't know if she could outright hurt the girl's feelings. Damned her and those puppy dog eyes!
"I-I'll think about it." Will sighed before another teacher came into the room carrying a briefcase like all teachers seemed to do so far.
"This is Mrs. Rudolph." Hay Lin whispered to Will as the older woman cleared her throat getting the attention of the rest of the class. Sighing as yet another boring subject began, Will wished this was like other schools where she could have skipped out between classes.
"We need to go meet our friends, but we will save you a seat in the cafeteria." Irma said as class let out and most of the students left as quickly as possible leaving the three girls behind, Hay Lin looking back and forth between Irma and Will.
"You remember where it is?" Hay Lin asked finally sighing in defeat as Irma grabbed her hand and started dragging Hay Lin away.
"Don't worry, I know where it is." Will said waving the girls off as she sagged in relief at finally being free of the hyperactive girl for a few minutes. If she was honest with herself she would admit that not only was Hay Lin growing on her, but so was the smart ass that was Irma. After all, anyone who could get Will to actually giggle during anything math related couldn't be all that bad, could they?
Making her way slowly to the cafeteria, Will saw not only her two...friends?...sitting at a table, Hay Lin waving her arms excitedly making the redhead give a small wave back as she waited in line. Looking over the group shocked her at how large it was, five girls and three boys. She couldn't help stop her roaming gaze on one of the boys who was HOT with a capital H-O-T in her opinion. He had shaggy brown hair though she couldn't see his eyes. He was of slim, though she could tell that he also had a lot of muscle in that deceptively looking slender body. In fact, she could almost picture him without a shirt, his muscles perfectly sculptured including a nice six pack. His body glistening in the mid afternoon heat as he smiled at her, stepping up to her to take her in his arms..."Do you want peas?"
"Wh-what?" Will asked blushing as she was broke out of her daydream to look at the cafeteria lady standing behind the bar.
"I asked do you want carrots or do you want peas?" The woman said rolling her eyes causing the surrounding students to snicker.
"Uhm, carrots please." Will said as the woman scooped carrots out on a tray and slid it down to the next woman. Paying attention this time Will made it to the end of the line where a woman sat nervously behind the register who rang up the redhead's meal. Blanching at the price, Will wondered if she should have taken that soda and cake that they had as extras. It had been so long since she had either and with the free lunch card she was given, it was a temptation she couldn't give up.
Taking out the card that she had stuffed in her pocket, Will handed it to the woman who looked at it then over at Will with a raised eyebrow. "Honey, we only take cash, we don't take plastic. We also don't take play credit cards."
"Wh-what?" Will asked, her face starting to glow in embarrassment as the students behind her looked at her with strange looks. Some looked as if they were pitying her while others were more amused. Whispers of "loser" and "poor" started drifting through the crowd as a larger woman came up behind the younger woman looking over her shoulder.
"Margo, this is legitimate. Mrs. Knickerbocker was telling us about the transfer student this morning, but you were late. Just write down the amount on the spot on the card for today's date." The older woman said before giving Will a sad smile as Margo wrote it down. "I'm so sorry sweetie, I forgot to tell her when we got busy."
"It's no problem." Will mumbled as she was handed the card back and hurried away from the line. She was heading over to the table Hay Lin and Irma was at when she noticed the Asian girl making warding gestures with her hands to the long haired blond girl.
"You invited that loser whore to eat with us?" The blonde almost squealed out in disgust making Hay Lin cover her face with her hands.
"If I'm a whore, then what the hell are you?" Will demanded dumping her tray over the blonde hair girl, her eyes watering. Youth group? As if! "At least I'm not giving daddy blowjobs for three hundred dollar outfits."
"Y-You..." The blonde shrieked as Will turned.
"Careful there Blondie, you might do something unchristainlike." Will tutted, her voice wavering as she walked away from the group. Of course she wasn't sure if the blonde was one of the so called youth group, but she was almost sure seeing the group with Hay Lin and Irma. She also didn't believe the girl really did that with her father, but seeing her dressed in an outfit Will knew cost more than her entire wardrobe upset her while hearing what was said pissed her off to no end. If there was anything Will was good at it was coming up with insults that both shocked and outraged people.
As she stormed out of the cafeteria she froze when someone grabbed her hand. It took almost every ounce of will power not to strike out at the person who dared touch her right then. It took what was left not to slug Hay Lin who looked up teary eyed. Puppy dog eyes or not, Will didn't give a damned about the girl as her own tears were flowing.
"Please Will, she didn't mean it." Hay Lin sniffed as she looked up into the redhead's eyes.
"Then what did she mean? I'm pretty sure there isn't a lot of different meanings for loser whore out there. So tell me, what did she mean?" Will demanded, growling angry at the smaller girl who backed away slowly.
"Please come back, give us a chance...give me a chance." Hay Lin pleaded.
"You had your chance now fuck off." Will said, biting back a sob as she turned and stormed away. It didn't take long to find the back entrance of the school where she knew the pool was and there was a small forested area surrounding the property. She had free time after lunch, right? So she didn't have to be in a hurry if she just found a nice tree at the edge to curl up against.
"That was awesome what you did to Corny back there." A boy with spiky red hair laughed as he surprised Will making her jump around to find a lanky boy and two large, somewhat overweight ones on either side of him.
"Whatever." Will said shrugging, wiping away her tears while trying to be discreet about it.
"Don't worry about that snob, she's just a stick in the mud." One of the larger boys said grinning while the other seemed almost...nervous? Will didn't have time to think about that as the lanky boy gently took her by the shoulders and led her to a nearby old shed that looked rundown, unlike the rest of the school.
"We have a business proposition for you, Red." Uriah said, his voice taking on a sickingly sweet tone that sent shivers down her back. She turned to leave but found the door blocked off by the two larger boys effectively cutting off her exit.
"Hey, don't run off so fast before we had a chance to talk." The other large boy said crossing his arms. Turning to look at Uriah, Will grimaced when she saw him pulling a small baggie of white powder from his jeans pocket. "After all, don't you want to party? After all, I know how you like to party, my cousin told me all about you."
"Fuck o-off." Will said, her eyes glued on the baggie as she found herself licking her lips. She could feel her entire body shaking as she fought the urge to just reach out and grab the stuff. Just one hit would make the pain go away that she was feeling from betrayal of Hay Lin. She was stupid to believe the girl wanted to be her friend, every time someone did want to be friends it was at a cost that was too high despite her paying it almost every time.
"Funny you should mention the work fuck, right guys?" Uriah said as he leered at Will, his eyes roaming up and down her body. "All we want is some quick fun and you get your nose candy. If you ask me, you would be getting the better end of the bargain."
"Go to hell asshole." Will snarled as she closed her eyes tightly and clenched her fist. The stinging sensation in her cheek and the vertigo of being knocked to the floor dazed her long enough for the two large boys to grab her arms and pin them.
"Just for that, I think I'm going to keep the payment...and take what we want anyways. Who would believe some whore over a lawyer's kid anyways?" Uriah said laughing as he slowly moved closer. "Strip her boys, it's time to have some fun."
"And what fun would that be?" An angry voice demanded causing the group of students to look up at a highly pissed off Mrs. Rudolph. It didn't take two seconds for the boys to abandon the baggie of drugs and run from the shed leaving the two women behind.
"Are you okay sweetie?" Mrs. Rudolph asked as she knelt down next to Will and stroked the redhead's hair as she sobbed out. After a few moments of comforting, Will noticed the abandoned baggie and crawled over to it and clutched it to her chest. "You really don't want that, do you? Not after all of the hard work you've done so far."
"Wh-why not? At least it will dull the pain that my fucked up life is." Will sobbed as she clutched the baggie like it was a life preserver.
"What good will it do to get hooked on that again? It will only lead to needing more and doing anything to get it. Is that what you want?" Mrs. Rudolph asked as she gently took the bag of drugs from Will's hands after she put up only a token amount of resistance. "Come on honey, let's get you to the nurses office and get you cleaned up and report this to the police."
"No cops and no reporting this." Will hiccupped. "I already have enough shit floating around the school of me, I don't need this."
"If you won't testify against them, I guess I'll just have to go myself. I'll leave you out of it if that is what you want, but I think it would be better if you stood up for yourself." Mrs. Rudolph said in disappointment. "Still, lets go get you cleaned up."
"Can't I just sit here for awhile?" Will asked hoping that she would be left alone for a little bit.
"Of course you can." Mrs. Rudolph said hugging Will then settled down beside her.
"Don't you have classes to teach?" Will asked in annoyance.
"Not until the next bell in twenty minutes, so I have plenty of time to sit here with you. After all, it's why I came out here for anyways." Mrs. Rudolph said. "I saw what happened in the cafeteria and normally I'd give you both detention, if not suspension. I think you have been punished more than enough though."
"How did you find me?" Will asked, as she dried her tears.
"Your tablet honey, it's for emergencies locating students and since you ran I checked for where you went and came to get you. I came to lecture you, but I also came to see if everything is okay." Mrs. Rudolph said as the bell rang making the older woman stiffen. Neither of them could believe they spent so long sitting there together. "Come on sweetie, lets get you to the nurses office, I need to get to class. I'll take care of the drugs when I get my class settled."
"I'll come in a few minutes Mrs. Rudolph, I want to just sit here a few more minutes and think." Will said making Mrs. Rudolph sigh sadly. "And Mrs. Rudolph...thanks...for everything."
"You're very welcome dear, are you sure you are okay?" Mrs. Rudolph asked as she gave Will a worried look which warmed the shivering redhead a little. Maybe...just maybe not everyone here would be so bad.
"I'm fine, get to class before you get a detention." Will said giving a sad smile to the older woman.
"We wouldn't want that." Mrs. Rudolph giggled before leaving the shed. After sitting there for a few minutes Will finally collected herself she climbed to her feet and stretched. She hated to admit it, but she did want those drugs that Mrs. Rudolph took. She needed them badly, or at least a part of her did. Even after the six week detox program, she still felt the withdrawals sometimes. And being that close to the very thing that could make that all go away was very hard as she also knew it was a source of a lot of her problems. It wasn't THE source, but it was one of them.
Slowly she trudged out of the shed and across the lawn towards the swimming pool when she saw two figures approaching her. Two figures wearing uniforms of...police...officers. Will had a very bad feeling about this as she debated if she should run or not.
"Wilhelmina Vandom, I'm afraid you will have to come with us. We need to ask you a few questions." The woman said as she glared at Will making the redhead shrink in on herself. Yeah, running would have been a good idea...
This is the only review I got when I asked for help on this story:
oz 3/23/13 . chapter 1
wihout magic... let's see somth different for a change :D
So thank you very much Oz for taking the time and replying. As for the poll, it ended 2 to 1 in favor of no magic and it would be 3 to 1 if we add Oz's review. So as you can tell this story will not be a magical story. It is set in a fusion created combining W.i.t.c.h. and Serenity. I would also like to thank Wilhelmina Vandom for the original story. As to those people who will be bitching about this story not having magic, I left the request for help and poll up for a week, You didn't answer then so I don't really want to hear your bitching about it now. Those people who flame over that will have their rants shoved up their ass and lit on fire.
