The Musician

Just a short, drabble-y piece on Demyx. Set around the start of Kingdom Hearts 2.

I don't one anything but my ideas.

The musician sat in the window, strumming his sitar absently. It was his only solace, no matter what state or form he was in. Music was his heart and soul whatever anybody told him. It was his art, his life. It was what kept him alive.

It also distracted him. He needed distractions, especially now. Especially when everyone told him he didn't have a heart. When they reminded him that he didn't feel emotions, that he was just reacting from memory. Horrid statements that he had been running from for years.

He could feel. He didn't care what they all said. He could feel.

They just mocked him for being lazy. Taunted his fighting ability. Made him a joking matter.

That hurt.

He would never dare tell them that he thought the kingdom hearts plan was stupid. That having them run around the worlds, attacking things was useless. That he couldn't muster any motivation to gain a new heart when he was still convinced he had one.

His music proved it.

The others ran around after Xemnas like he had all the answers, like he was their salvation. They thought he would make their lives perfect if they followed his orders to the letter. The way Demyx saw things, you couldn't be such a fanatic without emotion. You couldn't want if you couldn't feel. If Nobodies truly couldn't feel then they would just lay down and die. Living required effort. Effort required motives. Motive required emotion. The Organization already possessed hearts. Why should he be excited about getting new ones?

As a musician, Demyx knew when something lacked soul. The difference was obvious between a person who didn't care and a player who puts their heart into their music. When he played he still felt something. He could hear the emotion, he could make it dance. He knew it wasn't just a memory. Memories were misty, hazy with unclarity. They weren't as sharp as reality.

He still had his music.

No one could ever take that away.

A\N: I think this is one of the shortest things I've ever published but I think it works. I wrote the majority of this on my phone a few months ago and finally transferred it over and cleaned it up. I've always liked Demyx as a character and I've always hated that Sora was so mean to him and killed him. Now with the knowledge of KH3D, I'm almost certain that Xemnas intentionally sent him on a suicide mission. But that's just pure speculation on my part. The important thing is that, hopefully, you enjoyed this, short as it may be. For any Plans Never Work readers, I'm still working on the next chapter but it may take a little longer due to me learning how to drive over the next few weeks, but I will get it out as soon as I can.

Thanks for reading :)
