That Brave Man
Countess Grei: Hi. This is my first Devil May Cry fic. Please enjoy. I do not own Dante, Vergil, Lady, Sparda, or Arkham.
SUMMARY: Lady's POV. After Dante leaves the Divine Library after their fight, Lady begins to realize what Dante probably meant when he said, 'Thanks to you, I know what's important.'

"Wait!" I called. The demon with the white hair turned around. I held Kalina Ann to him. "Use this."
"What'll it cost me?" he scoffed, reaching for it. I jerked it back and there was a silence.
"You can give me your name." I could tell he hesitated before answering.
"Dante." I gave him the gun. He took it with a nod and turned to walk away.
"Dante," I called. Dante turned around, Kalina Ann propped against his shoulders. "Free my father."
He was silent. But then he nodded in agreement and left the library. I sat down, breathing heavily.
At first he didn't give a damn about Vergil trying to turn the whole world into 'demonville'? But I thought Vergil was his brother! Dante should care that his brother is trying to destroy us all!
And when he said, 'Thanks to you, I know what's important'...
Was he trying to say I made him realize that what Vergil was doing was wrong?
What a brave man Dante is...
And that brave man just walked off to save the world.
That brave man--Sparda's descendant...
The devil's child...
Perhaps he is not as demonic as his blood wishes?
I got up an walked to the door. I could hear shouting as I continued my journey. There was a loud THUD followed by some blood. As I neared the top, I could see my father Arkham laying in a puddle of splattered and smeared blood. I couldn't help but smirk.
He tried to reason with me, tried to make me believe he was overcome by demons like he had been when he killed my mother.
But that didn't work.
"Mary..." Father rasped. I raised my gun.
"Mary died a long time ago," I said, my finger tightening on the trigger. "My name is Lady."
I fired once.
Twice.
Three times.
I fired my gun until I was out of ammo, until I was sure that he was definitely gone.
I fell to my knees as the rain poured.
Something wet was falling from my eyes and I was sure it wasn't the rain. I brought my hand down from my eyes and slightly laughed.
"I thought I wasn't gonna cry..."
Soon, it stopped raining and I decided to head back down to the front of the castle and sat down, thinking sadly to myself. Dante came back soon and handed me back Kalina Ann. He looked upset--like he'd just lost something valuable. We looked up at the sky and conversed for a few minutes.
"Are you crying?" I asked, seeing something fall from his eyes.
"No!" Dante turned and wiped his face with his hand. "Stupid! Devils never cry!"
"Sometimes, a devil may cry when he's lost a loved one."
"Again, you stupid girl, devils never cry!"
