"Get him!" A chorus of voices chanted. Footsteps crashed as someone ran by, after a slight pause, a stampede of more stomps and stamps.
Rose pressed her body up against the wall, she had escaped them. She had ran away and ducked into a small broom closet, where she now sat. Her body pressed against the back wall trying not to breathe too loudly in the pitch black. Its fine, she tried to convince herself, no one is going to find you here, you're safe...
The faint sound of footsteps grew closer.
No. How could they know she was hiding here? How could anyone possibly know? Keep running. Run past the door. Please. She pleaded, closing her eyes tightly.
A sliver of light fell on the floor as the door opened and a figure ducked in. The door was shut abruptly. Rose could feel her heart pound in her chest, she needed to know who was with her.
"Where'd he go? This way! No! That way!" The voices yelled outside the door, and the mob took off running a different way.
The figure against the door sighed a breath of relief as it sunk down onto the floor.
"Who are you" Rose demanded. The words escaped her, it wasn't until they were floating in the air and being received did she realize how loud they were. She shut her mouth, biting her lip.
"Rose." The voice softly exhaled her name. Her breath caught in her throat.
Rose. The voice echoed in her mind.
Rose. It made her light headed, dizzy.
Rose. It knew her. All of a sudden she became very aware of the other's presence.
She sniffed the air, a familiar scent filled her nose.
Doctor...? The hair on her arms stood up.
Doctor. His voice got louder in her head, yelling her name.
Doctor! Her heart started to race. "Doctor..." she whispered his name into the dark. His figure inched closer.
Safe. I'm safe now. We'll get through this. She smiled in the dark. Closer to him, she collapsed into his arms. His chest expanded and collapsed with every inhale and exhale that ruffled her hair. Rose turned and looked into what she assumed were his eyes. Their faces inches apart, warm air exchanged between them. Doctor...I think I love-
The door swung open.
"Found you guys! We win! We win!" The neighborhood children smiled and bounced up and down, thrilled to have won a game of hide and seek.
The Doctor smiled and let go of Rose, but taking her hand and helping her stand up. "Great job kids" the Doctor beamed, making eye contact with Rose. She smiled uncontrollably.
Her hand still in his, he opened the TARDIS door, offering to let her go in. "Ladies first" he smirked and bowed.
"Oh, why thank you Doctor!" she curtsied and laughed.
Smiling, he motioned at the sky. "So Rose...where to next?"
