AN: Prompt 31 - "Flowers". Crystal Tokyo era Sailor Moon.
Hotaru found Chibi-usa in the palace gardens. The rose garden, to be precise. Chibi-usa had been spending huge amounts of time there, this spring, usually tending to one particular rosebush. It was new, a hybrid, and Hotaru was curious. Clearly, there must be something special about it, but she had no idea what that might be. Death and destruction were within her realms of power, not gardening.
"Look, Hotaru, it's flowering!" It had been a while since the pink-haired princess had been this excited about anything. Hotaru hurried over. The plant that Chibi-usa had been carefully cultivating was indeed flowering, but it was unusual. There were flowers of two distinct colours on the same plant. A cotton-candy pink, close to the colour of Chibi-usa's hair, and a deep purple-black, the colour of Hotaru's hair.
"What do you think?"
"It's beautiful, Chibi-usa."
"I named it Firefly, after you, Hotaru."
Hotaru could feel tears welling up in her violet eyes. "You didn't have to do this for me."
"I did it because I love you, and I want everybody else to know that, too."
Chibi-usa's hand found Hotaru's, squeezing it. They'd come a long way since they'd first met as children, grown up into the Moon Princess and Sailor Saturn. Some things, though, would never change, and one of those was Hotaru's low self esteem. No matter what Chibi-usa said or did, nothing could convince Hotaru she was deserving of love and affection.
"But why, Chibi-usa?"
"Why what? Why do I love you?" Hotaru nodded, wiping away tears with her free hand. "I can't explain it. You captured my heart a long time ago, Hotaru."
They shared a sweet, soft kiss, as they had done so many times before. Hotaru dried her eyes and smiled. "Thank you, Chibi-usa, for doing this. It's beautiful. And I love you too."
AN: My first attempt at a Hotaru/Chibi-usa fic. Hope I did ok.
