FMA Winry death

As Edward and Alphonse Elric stood looking at a grave you could say the only emotion surrounding the place for miles was sadness. The grave they were looking at was one labeled Winry Rockbell, a childhood friend.

"I always thought she would die after us Nii-san, more specifically you beacue of all the dangerous things you do" the younger commented sadly, a small frown marring his features. He put down the flowers he was holding and gave a side glance to the older noting the look on his face. "Ill leave you alone. When your done meet me and Granny Pinako at the house." He gently rubbed his Nii-san's back as he turned to leave.

"Sure Al. Ill see you there." Ed murmured as Al left him staring at the lonely grave. The idiots didn't even have enough sense to bury her by her parents. He kneeled down and placed his flowers on the grave.

Flashback

There was a terrible lightning storm in Resembool. Ed was forbidden to go out by Al for fear of electrocution. There was a terrible flash and crack that all the residents of the small village were terribly aware of. It had been going on for a few hours.

"Hey, Al when am I aloud to go outside?" Ed complained to his little brother pacing restlessly. What Ed didn't know was that his wish to go out was about to become true in the worst way. There was another flash of lightning that lit the house on fire.

Al was the first to notice it.

He was also the one who heard Winry's screams of pain as her body was burned realizing that his Nii-san's dearest girl was missing trapped in the fire having a slow and miserable death.

End Flashback

Edward's fist tightened as he recalled her death. He had never gotten the chance to tell her his real feelings toward her.

"Hell you probably wouldn't have returned them anyway" he whispered to the grave marker with a sad chuckle, as he recalled all the times that she changed the subject right when he was about to tell her. He also recalled the time that he had to protect her from Scar. That was also the first time he realized that he never wanted to see her in that much pain.

He decided at that moment he would protect her no matter what. He vowed to himself that night, while Al was out making sure she would be okay. Edward felt the tears that had started to fall down his face remembering all the things that they had been through, remembering his vow to protect the girl who layed in this grave.

He had failed. It was the same feeling he had when he lost Al's body to the accursed Gate, to Truth. He felt hollow, as if he didn't have a reason to live anymore. He was considering suicide but then Al would be left alone, and Ed couldn't bring himself to do it.

Ed stood still staring at the grave. He slowly unclenched his fists and convinced himself that it wasn't his fault that no one realized that she was missing until it was too late. Telling himself that Al would get worried if he was away too long He slowly turned away.

"Ill come back to visit. I promise, and it won't be like my other promises where I don't come through." Ed spoke clearly and loudly to the horizon.

"I've always loved you Winry and I always will." He spoke again glancing back towards the grave marker. He wiped away the tears that fell when he was promising to visit and set off to the train station where he would board a train like nothing ever happened.
