He has come to say goodbye.

When she catches a glimpse of his eyes, the smile fades from her face and she is instantly aware of what this means. She swallows hard and he averts his gaze, because the sun hitting her lke that is not making this any easier.

Her life has been happily ever after for ten years now, and she knew that it just couldn't last. (Because how long could she live in a world where she had everything? It just doesn't work like that, and she's not naive enough to believe that it does anymore.)

She looks at the frozen ground (they're in Alaska again), wishes she could cry about this, wishes she still had a couple tears left. (He just wishes he could win every once in a while.) She takes in an unnecessary breath, laces her too white fingers together.

I won't be back.

She looks into his eyes, a pleading gesture, says why, Jacob, why is it always life or death? Why does a choice always have to be made?

He laughs, a strange strangled sound.

That's just the way it is with us; stay or go. And I can't stay.

His eyes find the ground, and he looks back through all the pain filed under BELLA. His heart breaks again and he closes his lids against the familiar feeling.

I'll miss you.

He nods somberly, because that's all he can really do. They've done this dance far too any times before, and with each word it hurts a little bit more.

I thought we could be happy, I thought that we finally had it figured out...

He shakes his head, a disagreement.

You had it figured out, Bells; it's not that easy for me.

She closes her eyes, a look of sadness crosses her perfect face.

When are you going to get your happy ending, Jake?

He blinks, snow flakes melting fast on his too hot skin.

Haven't you heard? Fairy tales aren't reality, Bella, it's about time you accepted it.

Author Note - that was way short and completely random. Review please, that'd be grand:)
