Ice Princess
Shaman King Oneshot Anna/Yoh
Ice: the solid form of frozen water that is both dangerous yet beautiful. That was what Manta, his best friend, bookishly defined ice as. When Yoh Asakura thought of ice, he thought of his Anna, his ice princess.
In every way she was like the solid form of frozen water. Sharp as the crystal, she harvested the temper and impatience of fire, ironic to her uninviting, icy exterior, the balance of the two elements undeniably deadly. She was dangerous like its point, ready to attack if someone tried to reach out for her beauty. He knew hesitation in confrontation was nonexistent. If glares could kill, hers would slice with relentless daggers, over and over again, like the bitter tundra blizzards. Chilled from head to toe, her body was covered in the very substance she commanded, the very substance he thought of her as. From the words that arose from her icy breath hung uninviting icicles, and it seemed like the air turned cold in her presence.
And yet she was delicate too, just like wondrous ice. Her porcelain skin remained pale ever when the sun shone its brightest, and her cheeks turned rosy despite the lack of snow. Hazel eyes enchanted him; they were orbs of ice glass, glossed over with frostiness and distance, glistening like smooth crystals. She never strutted like a princess, but instead, strode, as if afraid to show how delicate she was, fooling everyone with bold steps and an almost impenetrable mask for extra measure.
But he saw through her, just like peering through ice, while others saw their reflections, their flaws and glimmers. And just as light hits one face of the crystal, when the sunlight flashed upon her monotone expression, he swore the beauty of the snow season had arisen into the sky, despite the time and weather.
He knew that if he neared her, he could have been slashed or broken her with a tentative touch, shattering either his body or her heart. And throughout both their lives, he had watched all the others avoid her, afraid of meeting a winter grave; even her friends had be cautious enough to put a safe distance between them and her.
But they hadn't seen. They hadn't seen her breakable features; they didn't understand that she could just as easily melt in their fingers. They couldn't see, and so they never took the chance.
But he did. How he was tired of just admiring her from afar, just watching the others pass by her as she stood there alone, looking like it didn't bother her one bit. He knew better than to accept her harsh retorts and orders; he may have obeyed them, but never accepted them as her – the real her. No, he wanted to be the one to sculpt her rough heart, her crude and awkward soul that had become weary with time – he wanted to be the one to shape it into the beauty that he saw everyday in her, not the beast that other eyes averted away from. And even though she refused his help in forms of violence, in forms of angry insults and cruel commands, he would have taken the chance all over again without a single moment's hesitation.
Yes, he loved her, despite everything, despite all of it, because he knew – no, he was sure- that they were destined for one another, Shaman King and Ice Princess.
