"Oh Fatherland, Fatherland, show us the sign…your children have waited to see…"
L slouched over the computer, legs tucked up on his chair and his thumbnail gritted between his teeth. Yagami Light sat opposite the renowned detective, pouring over some computer print outs and humming in a barely audible tone.
"The morning will come…when the world is mine…"
L looked up slowly. "Light-kun, what's that song you're singing?" Light raised his head with a mildly surprised expression adorning his features.
"Sorry, I wasn't aware that I was singing. Maybe a break is in order; I must be getting slightly distracted. Would you like me to make us some tea?"
"Four sugars please." L stared wide-eyes and emotionless at his counterpart as Light rose and ventured into the kitchen. Despite the distance between them, L was sure he could hear the soft tenor of the teenager's voice echoing faintly through the room in a dark tone.
"The morning will come when the world is mine…tomorrow belongs to me."
A/N: And that's that o.o For those who are unaware, the song is Tomorrow Belongs to Me from the musical Cabaret, but was also the actual song of the Hitler Youth. Very haunting, but I thought also very appropriate for Light. Worryingly appropriate even. Feedback and opinions are verily appreciated!
