"Gosh, what is all this for? Freezing up the hellhole?" Kenmochi grumbled as he navigated his way pass patches of melting ice on the floor. The corpse had already been removed, but the scene was still fresh, pools of blood slowly coagulating around the chalk outline near the balcony.
"Inspector Kenmochi, please refrain from contaminating the scene anymore than you must. You'll mess up the forensic analysis." Kenmochi rolled his eyes as Akechi's voice rang out. Really, Kenmochi had been in the field for years; he did not need that arrogant elitist telling him what to do.
Kenmochi paused a good five feet away from the balcony glass door, bending slightly as he squinted at the handle. "It's locked." Shifting his gaze beyond to the thriving, dainty flowers outside, he added, "No trace of trespassing either."
"As I thought..." Kenmochi turned at the contemplative tone of Akechi - it was not often he could hear the superintendent sounding uncertain.
Akechi was writing something down in his slim notebook. He looked up as he noticed Kenmochi watching, snapping the black covers shut. "Let's see what is in the back room."
It seemed to be an ordinary bedroom on first glance, with a tall wardrobe and a wide bed. The only point of interest was the leather wall hanging, depicting a red humanoid with spreading wings and coiling tail. It lent an eerie feel to the otherwise peaceful room.
Akechi was flipping through his little book again. "Really..." And before Kenmochi could ask, he went on, "Kenmochi, I believe it'd be a good time to contact our detective prodigy. He should see this."
Kenmochi hated it when people did not bother to explain things to him, but he punched in the numbers to Kindaichi without protest. The kid would tell him before it was all over, anyway.
