It was either now, or never. He had summoned up all the courage he had, if he backed out now he would NEVER be able to do it again.
Danny looked around nervously. Where's Sam?
Sam glanced once again at her mirror. She wasn't at all vain about her looks, but Danny wanted to tell her something important, and she didn't want to look like a slob. She groaned inwardly. Her parents were rubbing off her after all. Her lilac eyes flickered over her watch.
"I'm late!" Sam yelped, and ran out of her room.
---
Danny grew restless. Maybe she wasn't coming after all. He held up the glass ring and it glinted in the sun. 'Sam' was carved around the inner rim, and the glass was a beautiful turquoise color, much like the color of Danny's eyes. Yeah, it was lame, but it was his dad's idea. Besides, he didn't know what to give her. He put it back in its box.
"Hurry up, Sam," Danny murmured to himself.
-----
Sam slid down the banister. "Samantha! You know that you're not supposed to do that!" Her mother said in a reproving tone. "And where do you think you're going?"
"Sorry, Mom, this is important. Be right back!" Sam yelled hurriedly and slammed the door behind her.
Her mother sighed. "Where has all those years at private school gone…"
-----
"Danny!" Sam yelled breathlessly. She made a mental note to herself to grab her moped next time.
"Sam! You came!"
"Well, duh. So? What's so important?"
Danny fidgeted around with the small box. His fingers trembled nervously and the box somehow ended up on the ground. Both Sam and Danny reached for it, and their hands touched. They both blushed wildly.
"Well, you see, I really like you. You're pretty, smart, brave…and you're my best friend. Sam," Danny took the ring out of the velvet box and held it up to her. "I-I…love you."
Sam was stunned. She had never expected it, never realized it, but she couldn't deny it…she loved him too.
Danny looked at her uncomfortably. "Um, I understand if you don't want it. I'm sorry if I offended you." He was about to leave, when Sam hugged him.
"What are you talking about? I love you too, Danny," Sam smiled and kissed him.
