They don't touch each other physically, Himawari would never agree to that. There's too much a touch can do, too many things it could break, and if they ever try, she would back away. Instead, they touch each other emotionally and sometimes that is even better.
Watanuki fights with Doumeki out of habit, something that makes her smile. He cooks big lunches for both of them, making a big show out of it, and Doumeki does his part of annoying him.
(She'll laugh and clap her hands and both boys will relax; all fears and worries gone for a moment.)
It isn't too tense, only when she wants to touch them and she can't. For that, Watanuki is glad for that small bird that she can hug and pet. It would be hard to live without touching anyone, when you're down or happy, when you worry or just want to.
She still lies to them, sometimes. It doesn't happen very often but it happens nonetheless. This is something the two boys always have to watch out for, what keeps them on their toes.
Himawari smiles and waves goodbye, claiming she has to do something and for a moment, Watanuki believes her. Then something feels wrong, her smile a little too bright or her eyes a little too regretful and he knows she's lying again.
He tells her so and for an instant, her smile wavers and she stares at him like a deer in the headlights. Then the shaking image solidifies and she apologizes. It was a force of habit. She'll try not to do it again. It was an accident.
(He doesn't believe that and from the look on Doumeki's face, he knows he feels the same.)
Instead of saying what he thinks, Watanuki just gives her a grin and tells her not to worry about it.
She lies, he knows, because she thinks that will protect them. A false tale slips off her lips so they will survive another day. A little distance between them so she can see them live longer, come to school with her, talk to her.
(Her lies are how she shows her love for them.)
He knows that but she has to realize that it won't work with them. It never will.
They won't let her be alone again.
