Ah, this story is one I wrote when I needed to vent about guy problems. You probably don't need to know that though. This might be a little, um depressing, I don't know what your take on it will be, but I'll be quiet now. Oh yeah, italic is flash back.

Katara put a hand to her heart as a sob escaped her lips. She was sitting on a stump in an empty forest clearing. Tears rolled down her face as the waterbender remembered what had happened almost a day ago.

"Katara, we need to talk." Zuko, the Fire Nation prince approached the cooking waterbender, who dreading what he was about to say, pretended not to hear. Getting frustrated, Zuko began to yell. "Katara, we need to talk!"

Aang, and Sokka looked up from where they were planning for the day of Sozin's comet, and exchanged a worried look. They looked over at Katara, and Zuko, who were walking off into the woods.

As soon as they were out of earshot, Zuko spoke. "Katara, things just aren't going to work between us. I know you like me, but I just don't feel the same way about you."

Katara looked up, eyes wide. She felt her heart stop beating for a millisecond. She felt her heart being torn apart as she walked. Pain showed in her eyes when she met Zuko's gaze. "Oh." She said with a sigh. "Sorry to bother you." That was all she said before she ran into the forest.

Katara sobbed once more, and wiped her eyes. "It's not right that I ran away without telling them. They're probably worried." She said softly, tears still carving paths on her cheeks. She stood up and walked a few steps before sinking to her knees. "I can't go back. I can't see him again!"

"Katara?" She heard Aang's usually gentle voice, edgy with concern. She sucked in a deep breath, stood up, and turned around to face him. The airbender flinched when he saw her. He didn't expect to ever see her in the state she was in. Her hair was messy and tangled, her face was shimmering from tears, and her eyes were red and swollen from crying. He reached out a hand and she took it. He smiled at her, and with the other hand brushed the tears off her face. It was then that she smiled, one that lit up her whole face, and even though her hair was disheveled, and her eyes puffy and swollen, Aang thought she looked the most beautiful she had ever been in his presence.

He stared dreamily at her for a few moments, until she said, "Aang, I know I look bad, but it's not reason to stare." Her eyes looked hurt again, and her smile faded.

"No, I was just thinking about how that one smile made you look so beautiful it hurt." He said with a sincerity that made Katara smile once again. "You know that anytime you need me, I'll always be here for you, helping you heal your broken heart." Right there, he stood up on his tiptoes and kissed her.

After a few moments, he pulled away. "I'm so sorry. You're probably not ready for this." She blinked and simply said:

"What makes you think that?" Then she leaned in and gently kissed him, but pulled away after a second. He frowned, but she quickly reminded him that Sokka is probably waiting for them at camp. The two walked back hand in hand, and didn't say a word even when Sokka started yelling when he saw them, blushing and holding hands. All that was running through their minds was that kiss and the promise of always being there for each other.

I was trying to take a little bit of a different approach there, trying to write a bit of a darker piece, I don't know how it turned out, so please review.
