The Moon Rises
I.
Artemis
Now the hour has come at last
The soft and fading light
Has crossed the west horizon
And has bidden us goodnight
And what a lovely night it is
To walk a moonlit field
To see the softer shades
That are by starlight now revealed.
I'm in my palace on Olympus, waiting.
It's almost time for me to pull the moon across the sky.
Almost time to bring about another beautiful night.
So why is it that now,
When all is quiet and at rest
When candles glow and all the world
Is at its very best
The mortals on the Earth below
Should lock themselves away
To shun the moon and wait instead
For Brother's sunny day?
In umbra Luna est (The moon is in shadow)
But lately, I feel like no one cares about the job I do.
Everyone, even the other Olympians enjoy Apollo's bright and sunny day.
They bask in his precious light and praise him.
But no one says anything to me.
They just sleep the night away.
They don't stay out to enjoy the night.
It just feels like no one appreciates me.
Am I so wrong to wish that they
Would see things like I do?
And am I so wrong to think
That they might love me too?
Why shouldn't they adore me?
Is it not within my right?
Maybe I am over reacting, but is it so wrong to wish the see things my way?
Is it wrong to think they love me like they love Apollo?
I am a Goddess after all, it's my divine right to be adored!
I'll not be overshadowed!
Mine is not the lesser light!
I've waited long enough now
For them all to come around
And though the Sun may plead and threaten,
The Moon will stand her ground
It's time I do something about it.
I will not be overshadowed anymore!
I am the moon, a reflection of the sun.
But that does not make me the lesser light.
I'm done waiting for praise.
I'm done waiting for recognition.
I don't care how much Apollo begs and threatens me, the moon will stand her ground.
And all will know the wonder
Of my dark and jewled sky
And all the world is wrapped in
An eternal lullaby
So say goodnight to this,
The final setting of the sun
Tomorrow dawns in darkness
The nighttime has begun!
Nocte! (Night!)
On this day every single god, goddess, mortal, and immortal will know the wonder of my beautiful sky.
When I shroud the world in eternal night, everyone will sing my praise!
It's time to say goodnight to the sun, as it makes its final run across the sky!
Tomorrow is a new day, a day of darkness!
MY ETERNAL NIGHT HAS BEGUN!
