"Erised"

~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am the mirror of Erised
And I wonder
When you gaze into my depths
Do you realize
My name turned 'round is but
Desire?
For that alone is what I'll show you
If you are checking your hairstyle
Or want to confirm that your tie is straight
~~ Don't come to me ~~
I am the Mirror of Erised
And I alone see everything
I know the deepest needs
Of all who stand before me
Would it surprise you?
(I know it would)
If you could see the things
I see
I could show you
Which hearts ache for loneliness
Reveal those courageous enough
Though small in stature
To dream of being big
For the treasure deep within them
Is one thousand times larger
Than they are
I could lead you to every dragon
Left to slay
~~ I know exactly where they hide ~~
I am the Mirror of Erised
Unrequited love?
One of my specialties
Would you like to see
How true hearts hide true love?
Again I'm sure I could surprise you
And I'd be sore persuaded
To show you
If you could explain to me
Just why you humans cloak your hearts
Could it be the fear
That love remains one-sided?
Where is the courage in that?
I am the Mirror of Erised
And I stand ready to implore you:
Continue to dream
Continue to love
But don't forget
~~ To Live ~~
