I am an awful person.
I should be updating Not Quite Sure right now. But I can't.
You see, I couldn't write something fluffy and romantic last night. I was kind of out of sorts. By 'out of sorts' I mean completely emotionally unstable and in a depression-type state.
So yeah…
Ten years ago today Toph Beifong, one of the greatest earthbenders and a member of the original "Team Avatar", died.
There was lots of speculation surrounding her death. Some said she died peacefully of old age mid-eye-roll. Some guessed that she died in an epic battle. Almost everyone agreed that her last words were witty and sarcastic.
But nobody could figure out the real reason she died. That was how Lin Beifong, Toph's daughter, wanted it. Lin knew her mother never would've wanted people to know about the surgery.
Ten years and two and a half weeks ago today Toph suffered from an attack while traveling on a boat to Republic City. The pain in her midsection was so severe that she almost passed out. She was lucky there was a healer with spirit water on board.
The healer was an old man with a slight lisp and a medium length grey beard. "When you get thoo Republic City," he spat on her a bit, "Get that checked out."
Advanced technology was used to examine the center of the pain, her stomach.
Whatever a "gallbladder" was, she needed it removed.
"The healer says that it should be working at 45% but it currently is only working at 16%," Lin heard her mother tell Aang. "Oh it just holds bile. I'll be fine without it. Anyways, if I keep it in, I'm prone to more 'attacks'."
She came in two hours before the surgery was to start so the healers could prep her.
"All they're going to do is put four holes in my stomach and then take the gallbladder out." Toph explained to her nervous daughter.
"Promise you'll be fine, please Mother?" Lin remembered tears streaming down her face.
"I'll be fine, silly. Stop crying, I'll be out of the operating room in no time. Everything will be alright."
Famous last words.
Toph Beifong left that room, but she left it in a casket.
Lin never heard from the healers again.
Ten years ago today Lin began life without emotions. Her mother wouldn't want to see her tears.
Why so exact in gallbladder details? And why a gallbladder? And how did I get so depressed that I wrote this?
My mom is getting her gallbladder removed next Friday. This is like her experience (she was on an international flight when she had her attack. Luckily, there was a doctor on board that was allowed to carry on his supplies.) + her research on gallbladders + my worst fears + me PMS-ing all wrapped nicely into this piece of angst.
Oops! Rereading, I noticed I forgot the disclaimer! Here:
Bryke owns LoK. Clearly I'm not either of them since science tells me neither should PMS…
Review please! I've never written angst!
