I was able to move so much more quickly. It almost seemed like the Burdon of my long golden hair was a metaphor of the invisible shackles that bound me to the tower. The short, brown, spiky hair bobbed up and down and I pushed my way past the crowd.

As I tried to escape from the tower room, Gothel grabbed my hair and wouldn't let me leave. So I grabbed the shears off my dresser and rid myself of my golden locks. I turned around when I heard my "mother" scream and collapsed into a pile of dust. Then I picked up the end of my hair off the floor, wrapped it around my wrist, placed it over the hook on the window, and slid out of the tower for the second time that week. I had to save Eugene

"Eugene!" I called knowing that I would get no response. I heard a horse whinny, and I turned around to see a large white stallion standing behind me. "Maximus!" I exclaimed. I was overjoyed to see my friend. Pascal hopped off my shoulder and onto the horse's head. " Flynn is in trouble, we have to help him" Maximus looked at me with reluctance. " Come on Maximus this is life or death, we have to try!" I begged. The horse stood up straight, his head held high, and let me mount him.

I was silently kicking myself. How could I let myself think that Eugene actually abandoned me? I felt like an idiot, and I couldn't wait to be in Eugene's arms, safe from the guards. What will he think when I told him that I was the lost princess? Surely he'll still love me, right? I shook the though, it was too depressing.

Mounted up on Maximus, I could see what the crowd had gathered to see. They stood in a circle around a… I squinted my eyes against the sun to see what it was, exactly. A pang of dread clenches in my heart as I realized that it was a gallows.

"No," I whispered as the executioner hid the thief's face under a black sack and wrapped the noose around his neck. " No!" I yelled even louder " Maximus run! Run as fast as you can!" before we knew it we were dashing through the crowd as the executioner spoke, " Flynn Rider has been charge with the crime of stealing valuables" I reached the edge of the crowd to see the area heavily guarded. As the executioner finished the sentence, the floor beneath Eugene cave in, and he hung in the air by his neck. I dismounted the horse, and managed to push my way through the guards.

" Eugene!" I cried as I watched his body writhe for air. I sprinted up the steps to the top of the gallows in time to see the executioner pull Eugene's now lifeless body up by the rope. Then I did something I thought I would never do. I pushed the executioner of the twenty foot high pavilion and he landed with a loud thud. I sobbed as I pulled the sack away from his head, hoping to find him smiling and laughing as if the entire thing was a joke. I wasn't so lucky. My Eugene's eyes were closed and his lips were blue from lack of air. " Eugene, wake up!" I sobbed " please, do die on me now! Wake up! Please! Eugene! Eugene! Flynn!" I tried using his alternitive name as if it would bring him back to life. If only I had my hair, I might have been able to save him, if only...

My heart was broken and unmendable, I held my face against his chest, and gave into despair.
