Icing on the Cake

"I'd really like to know something," Allen confessed to Lavi one day, "I mean, it's not that I'm complaining or anything, but—whose idea was it to put Lenalee in a miniskirt and thigh highs? She doesn't really seem like the type—"

"Yuu." Lavi said without a trace of humor. At first, Allen thought Lavi might have been calling the other man into the conversation. He soon worked out exactly how confused he was.

"I did not." Kanda said stiffly, and sneered at Allen's gaping mouth. "what's wrong with you?"

He took a hearty bite out of the strawberry cake before him, munching with what, to all appearances, appeared to be contentment. The picture was so bizarre that both Allen and Lavi began eyeing their empty plate dubiously, as though suspecting drugs.

"Hey, Kanda!" Lenalee, for lack of a better word, flounced over, scowling playfully. Kanda paused, making a sort of humming noise to show he'd heard her.

"You big meanie!" she put her hands on her hips, nose scrunched adorably, "You said we'd eat it together!"

Allen and Lavi exchanged A Look. Kanda shrugged. Lenalee sighed.

"Man…well, what d'you think?"

"It's nice." Said Kanda. He said the word 'nice' like he was having his toenails pulled out, but seemed to relax when Lenalee beamed at him.

"I'm so glad!" she bumped his shoulder playfully, still smiling, "It was fun. We should bake together more often."

Kanda's face might have been made from stone. Lavi looked like he might be choking on his own hysteria. Allen looked like he was going to start bawling.

"See you guys later—oh." She abruptly stopped, licking her thumb and brushing it across the corner of Kanda's mouth. "Frosting, sorry." she popped her thumb into her mouth, and her eyes widened pleasantly, "It is good," she murmured, and tripped away.

Somewhere along the line, Lavi and Allen had stopped finding the whole situation quite so hilarious.

"You don't even like cake," Allen pointed out sullenly. Kanda glared at him.

"Tch. Shut up."

"We had some too," Lavi pointed out quickly, gesturing towards the platter he and Allen had decimated.

A smirk slid across Kanda's cold face, "I made that one," he announced, with a trace of evil relish.

Lavi and Allen simultaneously clutched their stomachs.
