Mari's P.O.V

Lian and I are walking me home from Gotham Academy. She's trying to cheer me up. Today a bunch of boys beat me up and called me names. It happens all the time it's because I'm different.

"Mar'i just don't listen to them they're stupid. I mean people love Uncle Kal and Aunt Kara and they're both from different planets.

"I know but at least they look like normal people."

"You don't look that different."

"I'm a freak."

"No you're not. If anything you're more normal then Aunt Kara and Uncle Kal are. You were born on earth and you're half human."

"I have orange skin and my eyes don't have pupils."

"So Aunt Raven can move things with her mind, Aunt Donna can reflect bullets with her bracelets and Uncle Garfield is green and changes in to animals."

"But they have super powers that are actually useful. All I can do is heat up my hands a little bit and hover."

"But I'm sure when your older you'll be able to do more, if not you can just train really hard like our dads."

I can feel tears running down my cheeks. "You don't understand I-I just want to be normal."

Lian stops walking. "You don't need to be normal." She says as she hugs me. "You're awesome."

We keep on walking we're a few blocks from my house when I man walks up and grabs Lian.

She starts to scream. "LET ME GO YOU JERKFACE."

"YEAH LET HER GO." I yell as I start to hover. I can feel my hands heating up a lot more than they ever have before. I shove them on his shoulder. "LET MY FRIEND GO."

He screams in pain, drops her and runs away. I feel my hands cool down. I rush over to Lian.

"Mar'i what did you do to him?" Lian asks as I help her up.

"I burned him with my hands. I was angry and they got hotter than they ever have."

"That's so cool!"

We run the rest of the way home. When we get to the gate I punch in the number to open it. We run into the house my mommy and daddy and Uncle Roy are waiting.

Mommy picks me up. "Hey sweetie how was your day."

"Ok. On the way home a man tried to grab Lian."

"WHAT! Lian tell me who it was and I'll find him and kick his -."

"ROY! Watch your language. There are children present."

"Sorry Dick. What after that, baby?" Uncle Roy says to Lian.

"IT WAS SO AWESOME. Mar'i burned the guy's arm with her hands. Then he ran away."

Mommy's eyes widen. "You were able to burn someone?" I nod. "Your powers must be getting stronger."

"Well I have to take Lian back home." Uncle Roy says as he grabs his keys.

"Bye Mar'i and thanks for saving me."

They leave. One of grandma Selina's kitties comes up to me so I start petting it.

"Starshine."

"Yes mommy." I say still petting the kitty.

"You know most little girls can't burn people with their bare hands or fly."

"Yeah it's because you're Tameranean."

"Yes that's also why you and I look different."

"Most of the kids at school think I'm a freak."

Daddy picks me up and the kitty walks out of the room. "You're NOT a freak you're special. Sometimes people hate what's different because they can't understand or they're afraid."

Mommy kisses me on the forehead. "You're going to do great things Mar'i, wonderful things."

Maybe being different isn't so bad. If being half alien helps me save people like it did today, then I'm proud to be one.
