Daddy To Be

One Shot.

"We'll be telling daddy soon little one," Gabriella whispered to her stomach.

In two days, it would be father's day and Gabriella had the best present for Troy - in seven months, Troy was going to become a dad. Gabriella was two months pregnant and had known for a couple of weeks.

Today was the day. Today, Gabriella would tell Troy about their baby.

She had a card for him from her and a card that read daddy to be. She had a little cream card with her sonogram picture in, multi coloured bib that read I love my daddy and tickets to go watch the Lakers.

The picture was wrapped - she'd even wrapped her pregnancy test and it was all laid out on the table with a delicious spread of waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, a milkshake and a fruit salad of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and bananas.

In half an hour, Troy would be up, which gave Gabriella time to shower and dress.

When Troy woke, he knew Gabriella was not by his side and when he opened his eyes, his thoughts were confirmed.

Pulling on a t-shirt, he padded downstairs to the kitchen, where he could hear his wife singing along to the radio and the banging of pots and pans.

Upon entering the kitchen, he saw a spread of his favourite breakfast foods on the table, along with a small stack of blue, wrapped presents.

"What's the occasion?" he asked.

"Father's day," said Gabriella, turning from the sink her eyes twinkling.

"Ok..." said Troy.

Gabriella was up to something and he knew it.

Sitting down, he started to tuck into his breakfast spread but stopped when he felt Gabriella's eyes on him.

"Do you want me to eat and then presents or the other way around?" asked Troy.

"Whichever," replied Gabriella.

So Troy continued to eat. When he had finished, Gabriella took their plates and he reached for the cards and the presents.

He opened first the rectangular blue envelope that held two Laker's tickets.

After that he opened a card.

Happy Father's Day To My Husband the card read inside and out. His mind kicked into overdrive and he began to suspect what Gabriella was telling him.

He reached for the rectangular box and opened it, revealing what looked like a pregnancy test encased in a plastic box. He looked closely and realized it was, and that's when he saw the plus sign. He looked at Gabriella who just motioned to the presents and card that were left.

Daddy to Be read the front, and the inside read: To Daddy, Happy Father's Day, love the Bump.

Without needing to open the other present, his thoughts were confirmed - his wife was pregnant.

Nonetheless, he opened the other presents, finding the bib and the sonogram. He stared at it and looked to Gabriella.

"Happy Father's Day," she whispered, tears pooling in her eyes.

"A baby," whispered Troy.

"A baby," whispered Gabriella.

"Baby Bolton," whispered Troy, pulling Gabriella into a hug.
