Disclaimer: Actually I don't really make reference to any particular character (but we all know that I'm thinking of Jack) so I should be good, but just in case... DON'T SUE, not mine (at least the Stargate stuff).
Authors Notes: Well I guess you could call it a mutant drabble coming in at 219 words, or you could call it a mini-mini-fic, but whatever you feel like is fine. Inspired by the movie Saving Private Ryan actually so...

The Beauty of war

People think that war is an ugly thing.

But it is deceiving from a distance.

From a distance you can almost imagine that it is a thunderstorm. The shock of light followed by the rumble of the ground. The sky trembles and the air shakes when faced with the might of artillery. The growl of the earth from deep in its throat as it is pummeled by explosions.

From a far away hill you can almost imagine that it is fireworks. The shockwave hits you right down to the soles of your boots. You can literally feel it every time another weapon is discharged and the sky above is lit with a blinding brilliance.

From a distance you can almost imagine that the screams aren't real and that the blood doesn't cover your hands and stain your soul.

From a distance you can almost imagine that you don't see the world through crosshairs.

From a distance you can only imagine for so long. Until your finger tightens on the trigger and the recoil of your rifle sends tremors through your bones all the way to your heart. Until you see the spray of red and the body hit the ground.

From a distance you can almost imagine that war is beautiful.
