A/N: Hey folks. I'll bet many of you thought I'd disappeared from the ffn circuit. Well, I'm back. I got inspiration for this from a fic about how much of a difference Iroh's presence made for Zuko. It made me wonder, "What if Katara had been there for him all along too?" Here's where that question led me. Basically Katara was captured in the fire raid that killed her mother. Enjoy the zutara-y goodness. By the way, there are four different POVs here: Zuko with Katara, Zuko without Katara, Katara with Zuko, and Katara without Zuko. Three stars like these will separate them: . Okay, now you can enjoy.

All The Difference

Zuko has no friends. His only desire is to prove himself to his father.

Zuko has a best friend. She opens his eyes to new worlds every day. With her, he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.

Katara has her brother and her gran-gran. No others her age are left in the tribe. Sometimes she feels so alone.

Katara is in a strange place with stranger people. Even though she's a fire prisoner far from home, she never feels alone with the prince.

Zuko has to fight. Maybe, just maybe if he beats this general that he spoke out against, his father will finally appreciate him.

Zuko has to stand up for what he believes in. She taught him that. He will fight anyone who would dare to consider such a horrible tactic.

Katara sits alone, wondering what it would be like to have someone to protect, instead of everyone always trying to protect her. She sighs while inside feeling cold and empty.

Katara stands in the crowd. Her best friend is about to be hurt. She has to protect him! She charges at the arena filled with a righteous fury.

Zuko has never had to been healed. He always came out unscathed. Now he hangs his head in shame and allows his face to bleed.

Zuko has never had to heal anyone else before. He never allowed anyone to get hurt. Now he holds his head high as he looks for something to bind Katara's bleeding shoulder.

Katara would do anything for her family. Or so she says. Life thus far has never put that claim to the test, so she may never know.

Katara would do anything for her friend. She proved it when she pushed Zuko away from Ozai's attack and took the hit herself.

Zuko's on the run. He was banished by his father and left with an impossible mission to regain his honor. His uncle is the only one who believes in him.

Zuko's on the run. He and his best friend were banished by a tyrant. Now they're both on a mission to find her family. His uncle still believes in him, yes, as does Katara, but most importantly, he believes in himself.
