Serena Ray - District 4
All around me the waiting tributes stood, the roar of a distant river, the only sound. Thirty seconds until it started, the Hunger Games. Forty four games, forty four victors, one thousand and twelve dead tributes.
Three, two, one...
Serena scrambled off the starting podium, falling straight to her knees. Feet pounded around her, screams and shouts muffling the river. She got up quickly and began to run towards the cornucopia but stopped when she saw what lay infront of her, a fallen tribute, stained with scarlet, unmoving. The careers had already claimed the cornucopia as theirs and serena had no intention of joining them, she almost didn't notice her fellow district four tribute Roman standing nearby with the knife that had disposed of the tribute that lay before her. Roman stared at her, his eyes urging her to run. Serena's eyes fell on the small backpack was grasped in the hand of the dead tribute. She grabbed it and ran, hoping that no one would follow her.
Serena ran for as long as she could manage, through the sparse trees. Her long auburn hair annoyingly getting in her face, obstructing her sight. When Serena finally stopped running she found a small ditch that was surrounded in undergrowth, she carefully climbed into the ditch pulling some long grass in front of her so she was hidden.
She rested and tried to get her breath back, she was dizzy and disorientated, her pulse was beating so hard she could feel it. She unzipped her jacket and splashed some cool water from the ditch over her face.
Serena pulled the bag from her back and opened it, inside there was some dried fruit, a large knife, a thin thermal top and a small black box, she carefully opened it to find it was full of darts. They were all filled with a liquid that looked like molten silver.
Not a long chapter, just because I want to see how it will do, If you liked it and want more please say so. Please leave a review so I can understand where to improve :)
