A/N So I brought Inception today and I am in the middle of watching it. ^_^ when Arthur goes "Quick give me a kiss... it was worth a shot." this is what sprang into my mind. Enjoy. As always I do not own the ideas/characters of the movie.
Worth A Shot
Eames and Arthur sat at the bar, this Arthur's second job with the forger and he desperately wishes the Cobbs would hurry with the extraction. To his left people, projections occasionally look at him. Eames is on his right, he looks to relaxed almost like he fits in. the forger never really looks out of place though. In the two weeks that they've know each other Eames has never lost his smile, he seemed like he knew how everything should be, he had an answer for every question Arthur asked him. This man impressed Arthur far more than Cobb who seemed to drift away when he spoke of or looked at Mal. And since they were teaching Arthur on the job, Arthur glad some one had they're in the right place. Eames grabs his hand, pulling Arthur from his thoughts and whispering in his ear:
"Darling, you're attracting a lot of attention, your shifting the world. Don't think so much." he lets his hand rest on the would be point man's neck.
"My name is Arthur," he says and the room goes quiet. Arthur's anger is what the projections are drawn to but Arthur can't help it. Eames talks such shit the Arthur cant help but be angry and push him away. Eames looks behind Arthur towards the projections.
"Quick give me a kiss," he whispers. Arthur doesn't move so Eames leans forward and places his lips on Arthur's. The chatter of projections start again and Arthur can't think of anything else. He sits there for a few minutes stunned. Mal and Dom come up to sit next to them.
"Okay, we have it." Dom says they still have time left so mal shoots Eames, then Arthur. Arthur jolts awake to see Cobb open his eyes then Mal. They pack the PASIV and leaves the mars hotel room.
Arthur never questions Eames' kiss but two years later when they 'stop dancing around each other and start fucking' Cobb's unadulterated words, he doesn't really mind the stolen affection in the name of work. Five years after the start of they're relationship they break up. Mal is dead and Arthur has elected to help him find away home. Eames is glad that Arthur is a loyal friend but they rarely see each other and quick calls between running just don't cut it anymore. It's been a yeah of then rarely seeing each other and neither like it. Then they are given a job by a man named Saito and Cobb is headed to Mombasa. They pick where they left off, with little taunts and bickering. They have a new architect and she goes under too without having much training. She can't even shoot and Arthur has to babysit her while Cobb does his "Mr. Charles" gambit. The projections are watching them and Arthur thinks back to his first job with Eames. And says:
"Quick give me a kiss," Ariadne kisses him and it doesn't really solve anything. She's still worried, about Cobb, Arthur can tell.
"They're still looking at us," she says.
"Yeah it was worth a shot," Arthur replies and gets up to leave. Ariadne thinks about this and realizes this must have happened to him too. She smiles because she can tell the way Arthur and certain point man share secret smiles that he is the one to have kissed him.
"Worth a shot," she repeats under her breath laughing because she can picture the forger lips smirking this at a wide eyed Arthur in dark-lit room.
