Chapter 1: Discovery

I had never considered the consequences of being out of my brothers protection.

I was walking home from one of the jobs I was on; Jim had just said goodbye and I was on an isolated street.

That was a bad idea.

I felt ice creep up my spine; I felt like I was being watched. I glanced behind me and saw a dark shadow in my peripheral vision. I swallowed and turned, walking just a little faster. Suddenly feet were thudding hard and fast behind me and I started all out running, desperate to make it to my apartment. I wasn't that far from a busy road, only about two streets away.

I screamed when a hand grabbed onto my arm before a hand closed over my mouth, stopping any sound from escaping.

"I know who you are," a deep voice spoke roughly. "And I know who your brother is; you're coming with me." I swore and yelled against his hand and struggled more forcefully, panic now beginning to settle in my stomach; I was getting too far in over my head. I needed to get out of here. NOW. I struggled even more when another man stepped out of the shadows, rope and gag in hand; I grunted when the man slapped me hard. He grabbed hold of a fistful of my hair and pulled m face closer to his; I almost gagged at the smell of his breath.

"Co-operating will make this far less painful for you," he spoke quietly, shaking my head sharply. I didn't meet his eyes but remained in a stony silence. He took that as submission.

"Your brother will pay anything to make sure you're safe and sound my dear," he spoke conversationally. "This is just business, don't take it too personally." I snarled when he let go of my hair; I wasn't going down without a fight.

I whipped my head back sharply, making the man behind me clutch his nose with a cry of pain. The man in front of me turned around sharply and began to charge threateningly. I couldn't use my arms, but I had proper use of my legs. I sidestepped the man running at me and he ran straight into the wall; I turned and ran away, hoping to get onto a street that had a house with lights on. Or an apartment, that would be better. There were likely to be more people that way.

I could hear the men behind me recovering now; they were angrier than ever. "GET BACK HERE!" One of them yelled. I tried not to look back; I needed to run. I came out onto a street but found that, to my dismay, that it was empty. I looked frantically around for a building that I could run into and saw what appeared to be an arena. "Pool!" I murmured, feeling slightly hopeful, before running as quickly as I could to get in there; there would be so many places that I could hide in there. Different rooms, lockers, the POOL if I was desperate. It was perfect.

I could hear the feet catching up to me and ran quickly through the doors, ignoring the pain as I collided with the wooden doors. 'Why are they unlocked?' I thought uneasily, starting to believe this might not have been a good idea. But I continued running as the footsteps got louder.

I ran through several corridors in my attempt to lose them, but they were maddeningly persistent; they must have been really desperate for cash to go this far. Even if my brother paid them, he'd only kill them afterwards. Didn't they realise that? And besides, I'm not completely helpless... 10 years worth of martial arts had really made me stronger. Black belt already and I've been doing competitions for the last 4 years; not that my parents ever noticed.

I saw the door to the pool and ran through it, nearly barrelling into someone when I did. I ran off to the side to avoid him and breathed heavily, bending down slightly to catch my breath.

"Angie?" A familiar voice spoke in confusion. I turned and saw my brother, which made my brows furrow in confusion. "Jim?" I looked to the other two men in the room and saw that one was almost frozen to the spot, with Semtex tied to him. The other was painfully familiar...

"Sherlock?" I spoke incredulously, drawing Jim and the other short mans attention. "What are you doing here?"

Sherlock looked at me curiously before starting in surprise and staring at me. He lowered the gun away from my brother. "Angela?" He spoke in disbelief. "What the hell-" he shook his head slightly with an uncharacteristically expressive look. "How do you know him?" He motioned to Jim. I closed my eyes and stood still for a moment, bringing a hand up to my face.

"He's my brother."

Hello everyone! This has been on my mind for a while now and I know I should be getting on with my other story, but I couldn't resist getting this on here!

I have a next chapter that will be quite a lot longer and several things will be cleared up for you. I've also written for the chapter after that; EVERYTHING more or less will be cleared up then. I put this up here mainly to ask a question:

Should I continue with this?

I'd you think so, please leave a review. I do like them, they make me happy. Feed the starving author! :)

I'll answer reviews at the start of each chapter and clear up any questions you may have for me.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you have a good day/ night! xx
