Number Nine was different. Unlike the others, he truly had a heart. When he spoke of this to the superior the idea was quickly shot down.

"We're nobodies, we can't have hearts."

"Hey, Luxord." The blonde began with a smile.

"Yes?" An eyebrow raised; Luxord felt that the young one's intrusion was surprising.

"Can you remember your old life?"

Luxord put a finger on his bottom lip in muse and answered thoughtfully, "Somewhat."

"Were you married?" Demyx knew the question was rude, but Luxord did look the right age to be wed.

"I cannot remember," the reply was simple. Luxord took a deck of cards out of his cloak's pocket.

He shuffled them.

"Xemnas says we don't have hearts," Demyx looked down as these words left his lips, "But I do."

Luxord continued to shuffle through the cards absent-mindedly, "I'm afraid you're mistaken."

Demyx frowned, thinking it over for a second, "I…I do feel, don't you?"

"We remember how it feels to feel, but we do not actually feel. We can only hold on to the shattered remnants of our old lives," Luxord looked at the boy sternly, "We have no hearts."

Frustration filled Demyx, "How can you say something like that?"

Grabbing the string that dangled from Luxord's organization coat, Demyx pulled the older man in.

Their lips met. Luxord dropped his cards. They pulled away.

Demyx stared at the older man, with the lightest bit of sadness left in his eyes. Grabbing the older man's hand, Demyx forced it onto his own chest.

"Can you feel it? That's my heart."
