The Spider

"Shishou! Shishou look! Can I keep it?" A tiny Kyo held out his hands excitedly revealing a tiny, black spider.

Kazuma looked from Kyo's hopeful eyes and back to the wretched animal being shoved in his face. He hated spiders… though he wasn't entirely sure why.

"Um… Kyo maybe you should just put it back," Kazuma suggested, hoping that he could convince the child to get rid of it.

"No! Shishou I wanna keep it!" Kyo pulled a jar out of his pocket… how he managed to fit such a large object in the pocket is still a mystery,

"I'll keep it in my room!"

"No, I don't think so," Kazuma took the jar from him, "I don't think you need a pet right now."

Kyo's smile turned into a frown as his crimson eyes brimmed to the edge with tears, "But… WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" The child began wailing at the top of his lungs.

"Uh… okay you can keep…" As Kazuma attempted to silence him, the spider jumped from Kyo's hands to Kazuma's face.

"Ah!" Kazuma jumped back as the spider fell to the ground. In his panic, Kazuma accidentally stepped on the small animal, squishing it beneath his show.

Kyo's eyes grew wide as he stared at Kazuma with perhaps the best puppy-shocked face that Kazuma had seen an 8 year old do.

"I…is it dead?" He kneeled down, examining what used to be something that would have been called a life form. Now, however it had become one with the pavement.

Kunimitsu came running as Kyo began to wail yet again, only this time it seemed to be much, much, louder.

"What's going on?" Kunimitsu asked as Kyo latched onto his leg.

"SHISHOU KILLED SPIDY!" he pointed to the smooshed spider on the pavement.

"Don't worry, Kyo, I'll get you another one,"

Kazuma twitched at his words, "Must you?"

Kunimitsu laughed, "Yes!"

THE SAME NIGHT

"Maybe I should check on Kyo…" Kazuma slipped out of bed, heading to Kyo's room. As he creaked open the door, a small stream of light shone near the jar spidy was living in. A large shadow cast over Kyo in a terrifying shape,

"Kyo!" Kazuma flew to his son, throwing him out of bed, "Run!"

Kyo sat with a dumbfounded look on his face, "Shishou that's a tree shadow."
Kazuma looked up, "Oh…"

"Really Kazuma, don't you think you're being just a little paranoid?" Kunimitsu laughed.

"When did you get here?" Kazuma asked, "You don't even live here…"

"Hmm… plot hole…" Kunimitsu answered.

"Plot hole? That's all you can come up with?" Uma's voice could be heard throughout the house, "Fix it! You make me sound like a lazy author!"

Kunimitsu looked mystically at the ceiling…

"Ah, dearest young ones, I was traveling through the forest when I set my eyes upon a beautiful stallion… as I walked closer, wings spread from its valiant body and it began to soar. I watched in pure amazement as it flew overhead and into the bright light ahead. As it disappeared, lights appeared and before I knew it I was standing outside this very room!"

"Maybe that's the acid talking…" Uma snickered. "Besides now you just sound like Ayame."

"You do better," Kunimitsu grumbled.

"Shishou!" Kyo shouted, "Shishou! Spidy's gone!!"

Kazuma looked at him and miraculously a large kitten plushie appeared in his hands.

"Here," He kneeled before Kyo, giving him the doll.

Kyo's face filled with joy, "Thank you, Shishou!"

Kyo jumped into Kazuma's arms, "I'm going to name him foofoo kins!"

Kazuma laughed, "Okay."
