A/N ~….~ is thought speak guys. Just so ya know. Thanks to chibiachika for the idea! Enjoy!

The Doctor opened his eyes. He was still in the TARDIS control room. Although, he now had a fez perched on his head. Not that he minded. After all, fezzes are cool. He had a stash of them in his bedroom, cleverly hidden from River Song. Seeing as she had a nasty habit of shooting the hats he deemed as cool. Amy and Rory were sleeping, unaware that the Doctor was still awake. The Doctor circled around the console. He could feel the TARDIS consciousness brushing against his mind… a familiar presence. But there was something else, an unfamiliar feeling… a kind of a warm, fuzzy feeling, in his mind. Puzzled, the Doctor reached out to it mentally.

~Who and what are you? ~ The Doctor tried to coax this other, unknown being into responding. The warmth of the presence flared. The Time Lord spun around, trying to see if he could spot this intruder, if it indeed was, inside the TARDIS. ~Hello?~

The Doctor nearly jumped out of his skin when it replied, quite loudly. ~Hello Doctor!~ the voice sounded quite cheerful and content. The Doctor tried to respond, but he was cut off. ~Might I say, the top of your head is quite… cool!~

~Well, yes. Fezzes do make everything cooler.~

~Of COURSE I'm cool. I was talking about your hair. It's quite brilliant,~ the voice echoed through the Doctor's mind. The Doctor's eyes widened, as he realized this other being, was indeed, his fez. His FEZ. Could fezzes become sentient? He wasn't sure.

~You're my fez.~

~Yup.~

The Doctor fell silent. Well, as silent as his mind could be. Which wasn't very silent, now that he thought about it.

The TARDIS hummed blowing hot air on the Doctor, seemingly jealous that another sentient being had captured the attention of HER thief. Said thief circled around the console once again, then dropped down onto the nearby chair. Crossing his legs, he brought his hand to his face. He was thinking about River now, rather than the fez. What on Gallifrey would she do to THIS fez. The last one didn't stand a chance against her blaster. Blown to smithereens.

~We have to keep you away from River..~ the Doctor mumbled in his mind.

The fez sounded curious. ~Who's River?~ it sounded confused as well.

The Doctor considered telling it about his last fez… ~River Song. She's a friend of mine..~ Before he could stop himself, it all came tumbling out. ~She sort of took a.. er… disliking. To my last fez.. She er…~

~She what?~

~…blew it up?~ the Doctor winced as he said this, a wave of fear washing over him.

~She.. she murdered one of my friends?~ the terror was evident in the fez's mind speak.

The Doctor grimaced, wishing he hadn't told it what happened.

~Please, don't let her get me!~ if thoughts could be shrill, this definitely was.

The Doctor patted the top of his fez. ~I won't, I sw…~ as he pulled his hand away, an orange colored laser flew through the air at him, hitting the fez. The Doctor felt it cry out in his mind before it was silenced almost instantly. The poor hat was blown into dozens of tiny pieces. The Doctor stood, appalled, looking to the doors. Sure enough, a grinning River Song stood there, holstering her blaster.

"Hello Sweetie!"

The Doctor jerked awake. Next to him on the bed, was River Song. She had that exact same smile that she had when she destroyed the fez. He glared at her. "Damnit, I liked that fez."

He'd been dreaming.
