Prologue
A little girl of about 6 walked through the park. She had long black hair held back in two bunches. She had piercing cat green eyes and pale skin.
"Hey." She stopped and looked around. For a second there I thought someone was talking to me, she thought. But no-one ever talks to me.
"Hey," she heard it again.
Then she noticed a boy of about her age standing by the swings.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," she replied walking up to him.
"My name's Kouichi Kimura. What's yours?"
"My name's Jenna Ichi," replied Jenna nervously.
"Nice to meet you, Jenna," Kouichi held out his hand and Jenna took it.
"You wanna play?"
"Okay," she shrugged.
He ran behind one of the swings then just stood there looking at her with his innocent blue eyes. Jenna stared at Kouichi wanting to remember everything about him, from his messy chin length black-blue hair to his scruffy green-white trainers.
"You first," he said pointing towards the swing.
"Okay," she smiled slightly then went and sat on the swing. He pushed her first slowly then gradually faster.
"Do you want to play stone bouncing?" he asked while still pushing her up.
"What's that?" she said jumping off the swing and landing lightly on the ground.
"It's my version of skipping stones," He gave her an 'evil' grin.
"Don't you want to go on the swing?"
"Nah."
"Okay."
--
It was the end of the day and the sun was setting, trailing fiery colours. The colours reflected in the lake making the park look picturesque.
Splash!
A stone the size of Jenna's little finger splashed across the water just passing where hers had last fallen to the lakebed.
"Ha! Beat you!" cried Kouichi dancing around.
Jenna smiled and picked up her next stone and gently threw it across the lake. Kouichi stopped dancing and stared in disbelief at the stone on the other side of the lake.
"Looks like I win," said Jenna still smiling.
"Looks like you do…Hey, I challenge you to a rematch!"
"I dunno …"
"Aw, come on. It's only six o'clock."
"My mum wants me home before dark."
Kouichi groaned.
"I tell what, how about I meet you here tomorrow."
"Okay."
"And, Kouichi…"
"Yeah?"
"I'm moving tomorrow afternoon…"
"You're going? But I've only just met you."
"I know."
Jenna turned and walked away. Kouichi stared after her.
Suddenly the sunlight failed and Jenna changed. Her purple nails grew longer and her black hair came loose and her normal clothes darkened. She seemed to fade and then suddenly she was gone.
"Jenna," Kouichi stood by the dark deep lake.
Alone.
